Well, I am a novice at computers. And I proved it last night.

I have a bad HD, and in the process of Copying it to a new drive, I broke one of the little tines (pegs) on the new HD. Now, my computer doesn't recognize the new HD.

Is this new HD useless now? Can it be fixed or is it more realistic to just toss it away and get another. It is a Seagate 300G, 7200. I bought it for around $120 or so a while ago, but hadn't used it until yesterday.

I don't need what is on the disc, so it is not necessary to have it. However, I would like to keep as much cash in my pocket as possible, depending on the difficulty of doing so.

You broke a pin off the HDD? Not good...
There basically no way to fix it except for changing the circuit board, and that rarely works on new drives. So I think you're out 120$

You could replace the broken pin (by scavenging it from an old/broken drive) but don't even think of doing it unless you're VERY handy with soldering iron.

If you are going to bin it then at least try THIS (http://arem.us/stuff/hdd/)
