user name & password

Have a dual boot pc windows xp + vista also have 1 other pc + laptop , have them on same network were all working fine & was able to transfer files ect, however when I try to open files between the dual boot on both vista & xp pc it now asks for user name & password which I have never used . Not a great problem more annoying but would still like to resolve it. Any ideas on how to sort this would be appreciated.

I think you may need to have a user account with the same name on both networked PCs - even if you are not currently using that user name. Best is to use the same user name on both of the networked pair.

You didn't say what OS is on the laptop - or whether XP is home or pro.
