okay were down to pulling the plasic out and doing something with it.then my friend doug comes over and starts screwing with my final plan on the new rig saying asus is over rated and are bad to send hoped up boards for testing and he is a big fan of soyo{he got a bad asus board and has never been the same}so i'm looking for some votes on these boards the asus a7v333 and the soyo k7v dragon ultra. p.s. rig will be used for gaming.

Both boards have the same chipset the Via KT333 both have pretty much the same features. Is the Asus board the RAID version, the Soyo board is. The Asus board has the USB ports in the back the Soyo board has 2 in back and 4 in front. The Asus board has 1 IEEE 1394 port (fire wire) the Soyo board doesn't. Both boards would be very good and since I haven't used an Asus board and I have a Soyo P4 board I would have to choose the Soyo board for the AMD platform as well.

Soyo got beat-up recently on bench mark tests
by Asus. And then it came to light that Asus had
furnished a board with an increased FSB by default.
Anything to win a bench-mark review. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif
Ever try getting help from Asus tech-support? rots a ruck.
Asus does lead all Mfg's in the number of RMA'd units. But
here you would have to bear in mind that they produce more
than Mboards.
After choosing a Soyo Dragon+ for a water-cooled machine my
vote has to go for Stability.

I got an Asus board in my rig, and it works fine and all but has a lot of options (both on the board and in BIOS) that are geared primarily towards overclocking. Not that this is necessarily bad, but 1) with processors so cheap who needs to overclock?, and 2) this is probably why the board was so darn expensive (I won't tell you what I paid, it's too embarrassing).
I'd have to say that if the features match, go for the cheaper one. You can benchmark mobos all day long, but if the faster one is more expensive, you can more than make it up with the slower one by buying a faster processor. I can also agree with your friend that Asus (and Abit) boards are overrated. For the price they charge they should come with a built-in microwave!

I have had both. My Soyo I had nothing but problems with. Now I have an Asus, no problems. Others I know have had the reverse experience. No general rule here. Go for the one with the features you like and the price you like. Chances are, the one you choose will be fine. I think when it comes to GOOD brand name boards with GOOD chipsets, the odds are in your favor that you will be satisfied.
P.S. HEY Ranchdog, the "rots of ruck" comment was lowbrow and I was surprised to see something like that written in a forum that usually has good taste and intelligent comments. Very unfortunate.

My comment was not made to show malice
towards anyone.
Just an old saying.
If you research back to Dec. 2000 you'll
find that I don't show prejudice towards anyone.

Ranchdog, by no means do I feel you meant malice by your comment. It is an old joke and one maybe best left in the dust. I am a Canadian and have lived and taught in Taiwan for almost two years. The Taiwanese try extremely hard to learn our language and it is a difficult task, as our two languages are so VERY different ( I know this from my attempts to learn Chinese).
One of the reasons it is difficult to get a tech support reply from a Taiwanese company is the fact that they sometimes feel embarrassed that their English is poor( which it isn't considering the difficulty involved). I just felt that "old" sentiments like this might perpetuate a feeling that is unnecessary.
I guess I am just overprotective of a people I have grown to admire and respect a great deal and whose hospitality has been more than generous.
Anyway, to put an end to this misplaced discussion ( sorry Paleo Pete, please bear with me for one or two more lines), you sound like a decent fellow and I in no way meant to imply you were prejudiced. Sorry for being so sensitive. End of topic. Take care.

HILLARIOUS http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif .....but....somehow....sad??? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif
I'm not up with current trends in American pop culture over the last few years, so I didn't realize until today that Scooby Doo is the #1 movie in America. Been out of the loop too long ( or not long enough ).
Couldn't for the life of me understand why people thought this was a reference to some obscure '70's Saturday morning cartoon. Hillarious!
Oh yeah, get the ASUS... or the SOYO...the asus...soyo ...asoyous...yousaso......I'm really sleepy....3:45 am here....m-u-s-t L-O-G offfffffff......zzzzzzzz

This '70's Saturday cartoon still runs every night at 9:30 PM CST on the Cartoon Network and I watch it with my daughter.

This is strange. I get the Cartoon Network here on TV. Lo!! Scooby Doo is on about three times a day, dubbed in Chinese!! I used to watch this show a lot as a kid. I can watch it now and it will help me with my Chinese studies. Thanks for giving me a blast to the past, and a new present-day diversion. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif(as well as an entertaining study aid!)
