Hi folks,
I'm looking into buying a video card. I would like to keep the price around $150 if possible. I'm not much of a gamer, but I do like to play games on the internet, so I think a 3D video card is a must. I was looking at the GeForce 3 for about $105, is this a good deal or are there better cards out there in my price range.
Thanks Jenn...

Hi,
If this card is the Ge Force 3 Ti 200, not bad. If it's the Ti 500, grab it now!!!! Run, don't walk!!!
There are a few flavors of the GeForce 3. Which one is it that you are talking about exactly. What brand and model number?
The G3 is generally a good card and should be fine for your purposes.

Thanks for the response. Actually it just said GeForce 3. the Ti200 is $89 and the Geforce 3 Ti500 is $136. They even list some GeForce 4 cards.
I found these prices on "PriceWatch"

Oh come on, malcore! I'd say any GF3 is better than "not bad"! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/tongue.gif
In any case, I agree, a GF3 (doesn't matter which) is pretty much a steal at $105. That's also probably the best card for your budget right now as the more powerful cards ring in around $180 or more. If you can find a GF3 Ti 500 for $150, you can grab that, but any more is a waste of money.

You did check on the vendors, didn't you? Those may be superlow prices, but the vendor selling these cards may not be the best one to buy from. $105 for a card that you never get isn't really a great price afterall.

You said it saphalline.Jennifer, the prices you gave are a real steal. Just hope it's not someone stealing your money.
I checked some prices on these cards at newegg.com , a pretty respectable on-line retailer(with competitive pricing) and they charge about $120 for the Ti 200 and $150-$160 for the Ti 500.
They have a good record for customer service and satisfaction, quick delivery and reviews of products by customers on-site. I don't have the link handy, but the URL is www.newegg.com. (http://www.newegg.com.) Check it out!
"not bad" was an understatement, true.

I'm finding some vendors are sellling the cards as "bulk" and some as "retail". What is the difference? and is there any way to find out if the company that I decide to purchase from online is reputable?

Hi Jennifer,
"Bulk" is similar to "OEM". A bulk product usually doesn't come with all the bells and whistles, like custom heatsinks, software packages, games, etc. It is still the same chipset, however, just without added customizations. Unlike OEM though, bulk items do not require being sold with any "qualifying hardware". If say, a bulk G3 Ti 200 is a fair bit cheaper than a retail one, I think you would be safe to go ahead and buy it. I don't know if the warranty is the same, but that's easy for you to check.
As for checking out on-line retailers, post some of the names and maybe you can get some feedback on this forum. Like I said before, newegg.com is very reputable.
Hope this helps a bit. Good luck.
