Hello,
I have had my notebook for a couple of years now, and it seems to take longer and longer to start up, (approximately 4mins.)
Has anyone got any suggestions please, on how I can reduce the start up time ?
My system comprises basically.......
WINDOWS XP HOME SP2
EI SYSTEM NOTEBOOK 4411
INTEL CELERON 2.4 GHz
60 GB HARD DRIVE
512MB RAM
AVG FREE VIRUS PROTECTION
SUNDELT KERIO FIREWALL
MOZILLA FIREFOX
SPYBOT
AD AWARE
SSPYWARE BLASTER
C CLEANER

Use "Hibernate" and "Resume" rather than "Shut Down" and Restart to get into Windows more quickly.
You may then decide that the slow Startup loading of Windows has ceased to annoy you because you seldom use it.
This doesn't prevent you from continuing to look for a fix; I have no answer for that.

It would probably be a good idea to post a HijactThis log so we can see if you have any infections that might be causing the problem....
http://www.merijn.org/programs.php
To run HJT, extract it to a permanent folder such as one you create like C:\HJT or the Desktop. Close all open windows and
browsers and make sure that all programs are enabled if you use msconfig. Run it and Scan, then Save the log.
When the log window appears, Right click to Copy it, open your browser and come here to Paste the entire log. Do
not make any changes until it is checked since most items are either benign or essential to the computer.

To add to the above
After you check for problems, you could tweak XP for speed if you like:
Start- Right click My Computer - Properties - Performance tab - Advanced - Performance Settings - tick the 'For Performance' box.
Also limiting Startup items not by msconfig, but how Black Viper (http://majorgeeks.com/page.php?id=12) advises at the Major Geeks website.

Your log looks okay... I suggest doing what Fruss Tray Ted suggested and then also defragment your hard drive...

It seems you have Bonjour installed
that was what was causing my computer to slow down...
So i just removed it and restarted, and that appeared to fix my slow startup / execution problem
Then i suggest u install Advanced Windows Care(AWC) V2 from [url]iobit.com/url]
This program removes invalid and missing registry keys and does a optimization of your computer

People who post links to programs and sites we have not heard of before in their first post to this forum are considered suspect... I advise caution about using an untested and unknown product... There are many well respected programs available for free already... You can read the article from my prevention speech if you want to learn more about internet security...
Here is my prevention speech to help avoid future infection:
This is a good time to set up protection against further attacks. Read the article linked below about "How did I
get infected". You need an antivirus that is updated, a good firewall (a router firewall is not enough) and a
spyware blocker like SpywareBlaster and also IE-Spyads. All of these have good free versions available... be very
cautious about any security software that advertises in popups or other intrusive ways, they are not only usually
useless, but also often have malware in them....

I myself use AWC and I like it
But there is a security concern, and one should always use precaution
I would like to submit AWC V2 for testing (McAfee Site Advisor says that is is alright)
I apologize for any misconceptions you may have had.
THIS happens to be a similar problem that i had on my computer and that is how i solved it
1)Uninstalled Bonjour
2) Ran AWC V2
and i never had a slow execution or startup since
There is also the fact that we don't much like automatic registry 'fixers' around here...and basically that is what is AWC is.
The 'all in one' apps, like AWC often do more damage than they prevent/fix...and yes, running several different programs to clean up history/MRU lists/etc may be annoying, but doing so also allows one to pause and think about what is being removed.
The same holds true for heavily automated 'malware' fixes...
No one program can do it all and any that claim to do so are not being honest.
Overall, I'd say AWC and its kin are about 60% snakeoil, 20% repacking useful, already provided by MS tools into a single interface, 15% dangerous registry 'hacks' (if you don't know what it is doing or how it is doing it, registry tweaks are very dangerous), 4% someone else's idea of how Windows should run and 1% useful...

Okay then i will not recommend it.
but the original problem is slow startup, and Bonjour was the reason for my slower startup...
