View Full Version : Check my neighbor's HJT log, please

GodOfObelisk

His computer is pretty slow as (just like Robert's). I click on FireFox (which I advised him to install) and it takes about a minute or two to start up. He wants to know if there could have been anything that he might have accidentally clicked on that might have caused this slow-down.

I found 150+ infections with Adaware by itself and am not sure what I can do for him other than run Adaware and have you good people here check his HJT log for him.

I just realized that he only has 192 MBs of RAM to work with, so that might be an issue as well. What kind of program can I download to find out what kind of RAM he uses (so that he can try to seek out some more RAM to get his system to somewhere along the lines of 512 MBs of RAM or something like that?

Just in case something in his HJT log might be affecting his system a little, can someone please check his log (once again, I am not doing this for profit or anything like that, I just want to help out my neighbor and if I missed any details about this problem then I apologize and wish to be informed (again) what I might have missed that could help someone fix this problem faster and/or more accurately):

This one was taken in Safe Mode and before a Adaware scan:

Please let me know what I can do for my neighbor and thanks in advance.

I'll get started on installing Avast and ZoneAlarm for him, but would appreciate any advice on RAM and a check-up on the HJT log.

Please hold off on installing anything until the computer is clean and please keep it offline as much as possible... Do this:

Please download VundoFix.exe (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4)
to your desktop.
Double-click *VundoFix.exe* to run it.
Click the *Scan for Vundo* button.
Once it's done scanning, click the *Remove Vundo* button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click *YES*
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click *OK*.
Please post the contents of C:\*vundofix.txt* and a new HiJackThis log.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above
instructions starting from "Click the *Scan for Vundo* button." when
VundoFix appears at reboot.

What kind of program can I download to find out what kind of RAM he uses (so that he can try to seek out some more RAM to get his system to somewhere along the lines of 512 MBs of RAM or something like that?
CPU-Z (http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php) will tell you what kind of RAM is installed (wait for Budfred's go-ahead as per his previous post (http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showpost.php?p=336057&postcount=3)). I see he has Norton, which takes up a lot of resources--that combined with only 192MB of RAM would easily bring the system to its knees.

Azzey,
Please wait for Budfred to help clean up this mess first, the Vundo infection itself will bring the system to it's knees.

Vundo didn't find anything it needed to fix and here is the newest HJT log (after a manual restart (because it didn't give me a Vundo log and didn't restart itself)):

I got this for the search on CPU-Z:

Manufacturer: Infineon
Serial Number: 04057E24
Part Number 64D32300HU5C

Is this enough to find some memory? If I find a vendor selling a stick of 256 MB DDR from Infineon, should I buy that or what should I look for?

Please turn off the WordWrap in Notepad, it makes the log almost impossible to read without copying and pasting to another program, then editing it...

I will base these fixes on the first log:

First, go to Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel and remove these if they are there:

WinAntiVirus Pro 2006
DriveCleaner 2006 Free

Then open a HJT scan and put checks by:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [waijkadmvx] c:\windows\system32\waijkadmvx.exe waijkadmvx
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ERS_check] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinAntiVirus Pro 2006\ers_startupmon.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DC6_check] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinAntiVirus Pro 2006\dc6_startupmon.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DriveCleaner 2006 Free] "C:\Program Files\DriveCleaner 2006 Free\UDC2006.exe" /min
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SDR6Y_Check] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\DriveCleaner 2006 Free\sdrmon.exe"

Close all open windows except HJT and press Fix checked...

Find and delete:

C:\WINDOWS\ALCXMNTR.EXE
c:\windows\system32\waijkadmvx.exe
C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinAntiVirus Pro 2006 (whole folder)
C:\Program Files\DriveCleaner 2006 Free (whole folder)

You may need to show hidden and system folders to find them:

In Windows XP, on the taskbar, click Start > My Computer.
In the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
On the View tab, uncheck Hide file extensions for known file types.
Uncheck Hide protected operating system files. Then, under the "Hidden files" folder, click Show hidden files and folders.
If you see a warning message, click Yes.
Click Apply.
Click OK.

Reboot and post a fresh HJT log... Let me know how the computer is running...

Schedule conflicts have come up with my neighbor and me, so forgive me if I haven't given you any feedback. I think he definitely should get some more RAM though (192MB...:(), so I am going to press him a bit for that and I will try to make those fixes tomorrow (God willing...).
