hi, i just bought a starlogic 20.1 inch widescreen and hooked it up.

when i set my resolution to 1600 x 900, it fill the screen nicely, but i have a hint of a double image in the screen, where the 2nd image is offset from the actual image by about 6 inches.

if i set to 1280 x 786 i do not have this problem.

i am wondering what the problem is??
the monitor?? the fact that i have no video card? or windows xp??

my motherboard is:
Gigabyte 8i945G Pro with Integrated Intel® Graphic Media Accelerator 950
http://tw.giga-byte.com/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=1908&ModelName=GA-8I945G%20Pro

also in the manual it states that windows may not support certain screen resolutions, incl. 1600 x 900

thanks
sumit

If the onboard video on your motherboard doesn't support the resolution, then there is your problem...with a video card that supports the resolution and the proper drivers, Windows will handle it.

thanks for the reply...
from what i can tell, i think the onboard graphics should be able to output 1600x900
(http://www.intel.com/products/chipsets/gma950/)

as it says:
"Up to 2048x1536 resolution for both analog and digital displays"

or am i misinterpreting this line??

What is the native resolution of the monitor? I'm assuming that it is a flatscreen. If it is, then you will get the best result by running the video card at that resolution,

i believe the native resolutino is 1680 x 1050.
however, in my monitor settings, this is not an option...only 1600 x 900 is an option....

sounds like i need a video card right?
any cheap ones out there that will support 1600x900?

As david eaton suggested, I'd be looking for one that supports 1680 x 1050...

just manually set the resolution to 1680 x 1050 maybe the pc thinks it can display a resolution that it cant my pc goes to 1280 x 1024 but some games say 1600 x 1200 and they make it go REALLY funky. i have never heard of a resolution of a 20..1" screen as 1600 x 900 its usually 1680 x 1050.

I have seen this before and it was a bad vga/dvi cable. ;)

See if the monitors manufacturer will send you out a new one.

i tried the manufacturers vga cable, and my own separately purchased dvi cable, and both have the same issue. i can try another cable, as i also thought that might be the issue...but any other possibilities?

If the cable, video card and drivers have been ruled out that leaves only the monitor as the faulty component.

it seems this is correct.
i talked to the manufacturer and they agree that it is likely a faulty monitor.

after spending $40 on a video card, and prob at leaest $30 to ship it back to them, i wish i had gotten a more reliable brand.

thanks for all the help

Well there isn't much you can do about the shipping cost, but the video card will help your overall system performance, so that's not really a waste. :)
