Is there any (gratis) software available that will help me to determine if my drivers and firmware are out of date, and then also direct me to where the latest drivers etc. can be downloaded from.

I am aware that this can be done the laborious way, bit a nifty piece of software would make life much more easier and be more efficient.

O/S Windows XP home.

There's always MS Update but if all is running well do you need to search for updates?

I have automatic updates turned on, but thought that applied to M.S. only.

What I had in mind was the printer, scanner etc.,

Everything appears to be running well, perhaps I am being a little ultra careful and should apply the old adage "If it ain't broke - dont fix it".

Anyway, many thanks........

If it ain't broke, don't fix it' is a very wise move with hardware!
I'd take a look around for forums directly related to your hardware, and see if there are any advantages to the latest drivers. If you know roughly when you installed the hardware, you can get a good idea of whether the current drivers are newer than yours.
Sometimes printers work better (better dithering of colours in fades for example) and can be more stable, but if yours are working fine, then follow your own advice - leave it be!:D

Thanks Deddard,
I think the main problem is....being retired, one has a little bit to much spare time and tries to create work, if it was a bit warmer and not raining, I'd go and mend the garden fence. LOL.
