I think it would very useful to have a section on home networking.

Hi Samantha,
Sorry I missed this somehow! It's a great idea, and something I want to do. I just don't know when I will be able to. Writing a new section takes a long time, and frankly, I don't seem to get many readers of new material, making it hard to justify the energy on top of all the updating I need to do.
I still want to do it though. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

I'd like to see that too, I'm looking for info to help my sister set up a home network, so she and our mother can use one line to access the Internet. I'd also like to set one up here, to tinker with and learn it, as another factor pertaining to A+ testing, and to enable multiple connections through one modem as well. I have a Packard Bell P-60 sitting here not doing much, a couple of 386 machines, and all have or will soon have win3.11 on them. I'd like to be able to use them for things like spare computers for company, and print servers, etc. (Whenever I get the van fixed and can buy NIC's.) But how to do it? I'm looking all over he net for info, but can't seem to find a lot about what I'm after. MOst is oriented toward business applications involving a lot more than the 2 or 3 machines I want to deal with. Some interactive feedback would be great.

Dammit, I had a great link to a "How-to" for home networking which was written by Lloyd Case on Gamespot, but they've removed all their hardware links from the front page. I have the link at home and will post it at my first opportunity...

In the meantime, here's some less cool ones:

Oh, wait, here it is: damn, that was hard--

That's the good one

Yes, more info on home networking information is needed. More and more of us are finding that it is easier to get new systems then mess with the old working one therefore more multicomputer households.

Over the past several years I have built a 4 system network all sharing a single 28800 modem using Win98s ICS. I set my network up using the web as my main resource, one thing I have noticed in my adventures in networking is that M$ seems to be geared towards a Win98 box talking to an NT server. I think most home users will be setting up a peer to peer network on Win98 systems(ME should be about the same). What is needed is hard info concerning networking Win98 family systems.

Hi Ross,

Ok, thanks for the confirmation that this is something people want. I will definitely give this some significant consideration!

I would like to see a thread on home networkign too. While I do have a nice network in my house, my NT DOmain, and networked printer and hard drives and such, I want to figure out setting up TCP/IP on my network (truth is, I have been lazy about setting it up, i have books and resources telling me how). Anyway, I know how it would be alot of hard work for you charles, but if you can find the time, it would be nice.

Thanks for the ideas guys. Do you think a quick "how to" type procedure article would suffice? My todo list is currently longer than my arm and since networking isn't my area of expertise, I can't see getting into it in a detailed way for some time.
