Hi People..:D

The situation:
Wireless connection keeps "dropping out"..
Reboot and it will connect for a while.. 5 minutes.. 10 minutes or so..
then it stops.. will sometimes reconnect itself after a few minutes, sometimes a reboot is needed!

My other PC hardwired to the router works fine so internet connection is ok.
This computer works fine when hardwired to the router (as it is now)?

Tried already:
Reset router (Netgear) to default.
Swapped out WiFi card.
Even went so far as to clean install XP Pro on this pc in case my "tinkering" had upset some settings etc...

Summary:
One netgear router
Two pc's connected to it
One works fine (wired)
One gives problems (WiFi) (but is all ok when hardwired)
Distance from router = approx 8 to 10 metres max. (next room) other side of a timber wall!...

Any suggestions most welcome, its driving me nuts as I can't keep the pc "wired" 'cos the wife don't like cables "draped" everywhere!!..:D :D

Any info you need let me know..;)

I am by no means a wireless guru so take my suggestions with a grain of salt. Have you tried other wireless channels? If you look at available networks, are there several others shown? You could have interference with other nearby networks.

My $0.02

Tried a few different channels with no result!

No other nearby networks detected!

Since my first post, I have had to reinstall the aol software to get online!!..

It works on this pc so the issue must surely be with the router??

What type of signal strength are you pulling on the wireless?

I think as Variable pointed out in another thread the actually channels to use are 1, 3, 6, 9, and 11...these are also the channels I wrote down after my last tech-support go-around with Linksys.

Any other wireless devices anywhere in the vicinity (cordless phone, headsets, keyboard, mouse, or microwave)?

Hi Whyz...:D

Never had "brilliant" signal strength but it's worked ok (adequately) for months!
Got wireless keyboard and mouse, but they have been there all along..

No other cordless devices anywhere, tried switching channels its back on 11 now but tried them all!

Can't think of anything I've done recently to account for the change..unless it is a fault with the WiFi part of the router itself (but why would it show on the pc as active if that was the case)??.

Soon as I loaded the dreaded AOhell software back on the pc and reinstalled the ADSL modem it connected fine! (that's what I am using now)..

Odd one!..:(

Strange indeed!

There were some other settings that Linksys had me alter from the default values that had to do with broadcasting the signal...these were other than the channel changes themselves...

If you're pulling signal and back in the game...I guess that's the main thing. ;)

Hardwired on ADSL modem at the moment..but "back in the game" I am!!.. onwards!..

As long as I can connect somehow or other.. life is GOOD:D :D

Pulled up the Linksys settings...

They had me in Wireless>Advanced Wireless Settings

Changed the beacon interval from 100 (default) to 80

Also the Fragmentation Threshold from 2346 (default) to 2304

Also the RTS Threshold from 2347 (default) to 2305

I have no idea what they do...

But, I will need to upgrade my antennae...I need something with a little more muscle...
