Howdy folks.
:)

Anyone know how to kill Firefox web-browser when it crashes?
I'm using the latest version, that being 1.0.5.10

System is XP Pro, SP2.

Every now and again, it crashes in the middle of loading a page.

Other applications can still be run, but FF has crashed.

If you try to kill the application by running TASK MANAGER, and attempting to stop the application, there is a pause, then nothing happens.

Next thing I tried, was to go into PROCESSES, find FIREFOX.EXE, and attempt to kill it directly from there, but I get the same little pause, and it is still running.

Next, I tried to clear the dead application by attempting a RESTART, but when you click RESTART, the PC just drops you back at the desktop - I repeated this step about 6 times, then gave up on that method too...

The only way to re-stabalize the system, is to force a warm-boot via the RESET button on the PC box, which is not a method I would like to use, as this could upset the system even more!
:p

Any ideas?

Can you kill stubbon applications via the command-prompt perhaps?

I'm in the year 2107 (with Ted) using version 2.0.0.2 also... you should consider using the "newer than newest" one :p Quite a few new features, bug fixes, security holes fixed since 1.0.5 was released

Curious - it only updated itself last night, and this is the version reported with HELP/ABOUT...

Version 2.0.0.2 here as well. Perhaps you should get the latest download from the website. http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

There some nice new features with FF2 as well. :)

Install and run Process Explorer (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/ProcessesAndThreads/ProcessExplorer.mspx), and use that to right-click on the Firefox.exe process and "Kill Process Tree".

Cool, thanks Sylvander...
:)

To other posters: I will go now, and download the latest version, as indicated.

...I wonder why, after it "Updated" itself, asked for a re-boot, and when run, it showed up with version # being 1.0.5.10...

Anyhoo...

So did Process Explorer do the trick? :)
