Alrighty
Just built meself a new machine so deicded to overclock the old one. Got an AMD Barton 2500+ (Socket A), Coolermaster Heat sink and Abit NF-7 Mobo. 1.5GB PC2700 RAM.

So far, overclocked to 1.88 GHZ - Corespeed 1883.5 MHz ( 11x171.2)

Started OK, and ran 'Heavy Load' and seemed ok there too. Switched it off, went back to it later, reached the 'Starting Windows XP' logo and the mobo started making a 2 tone alarm noise. Bricked it, switched off, tried again. Same thing happened.

Switched off, went into BIOS and changed bus speed to 169 giving me 1.86GHz. Started perfect. I was hoping to reach much further than that i did with regards to overclocking.

Was the alarm nosie a result in the CPU not being able to handle it?
Any tips?

Also running speed fan, which one tells me actual CPU temperature? As i have Temp1 - 4. I take it ACPI is the CPU temp?

Hope someone can help!

Ta

The alarm noise is probably the warning that the CPU is overheating.

Don't know exactly what readings you gat with that motherboard, but running Speedfan here, the CPU is the first one. suggest that you post back with the temps, and what they are shown as.

It could be the ram can't take it, could be something else. When overclocking the CPU your are overclocking the entire system in most cases.

I would suggest looking up the beep codes in your mobo manual to see what the culprit may be.

Temps look OK. System temp (temp2 - most likely) could be a little lower, but it isn't outrageous.

Pretty strange - will have to check mobo manual. Just came home frm work, system has been off all day and night. Switch on and get the alarm again. Reboot and works fine!

Only received this problem since installed the new heatsink but all temps seem ok and it's working fine. May just be coincidence.

Any decent software for checking Ram? Memtest will do the job yeh?

Checked mobo manual - no idea what the alarm code is.

Took a look at your first post again, you said a "two tone alarm"? Like a siren? If it is like a siren then that is definitely the overheating alarm.

Have you checked in the temps in the BIOS? That is the most accurate place to check them, and it should always be checked to verify that any monitoring software is correct or not.

Yes Memtest is used by many around here to test the ram.

Have checked in the BIOS mate, the temp seems fine, 35C.
And it sounds when i boot a cold machine. Eg. PC switched off at 12 midnight. Turned back on at 6pm, and it makes the alarm/siren.
