Any chance you could think about letting us have avatars? Or would that be too much with all our gadgets we have? If we can sometime in the future, I want dibs on this one:

I know it will be a while before you can answer this. You have more important things to attend to for now. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Maybe Charles wll say differently at this point, but as I explained in your post in Test, he apparently recieved a few complaints aout the animated gifs taking too long to load early in the game, and requested that I stop using them my first 2 weeks or so here.

I've always liked the idea, and once kept a text file with UBB links to copy & paste, but after that request, stopped using them except on occasion in a limited manner. We'll see what happens, but for now I have to say take it easy on the animations, for the sake of those of us who have to live with 26,400 or slower connections. In my case, 28,800 is about the best I ever get, and cable or DSL usually gets "Huh?" or a blank stare around here...but I still like some of the cool gifs I've seen people come up with in other forums, and wouldn't mind it at all myself, it's not that big a problem to me. Other folks may have different opinions, however, so let's let Charles have the final say on this one.

No offense to Fish or anyone else, but I don't see the purpose of cluttering up this forum with non-functional images, especially animated one. I work on a 28800 or slower connection and numerous images on a page -- even small ones -- makes a *significant* difference in download time. Furthermore, a bulletin board like this writes incomplete code for images, omitting the width and height attributes. This means that browsers have to repeated redraw the page, shifting text around until all images are downloaded. This make it extremely difficult to read until the page and all images are fully loaded.

This board has a specific purpose. People come here to get help, not merely to be entertained. There are many other boards where people can engage in chat and express their creativity and mood with imagery. My vote is to keep this board as text-based as possible.

Enough said guys. No more from me then. I hope I didn't offend anyone and I definately wouldn't want to take anything away from anyone here. I have a higher speed connection and sometimes don't think correctly. Hope you accept my apologies! And sleddog, no offense taken, I hope you forgive the obviously not thought out question. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Pete I remember what you said, I just thought if it was in the cache it might be quicker.

Fish, it was (is) a fair question and there's no need to apologize. Cheers!

OK, so Fish: Are you saying that you sometimes don't think correctly because of the higher speed connection, or are you saying that you sometimes don't think correctly by nature?

Sorry Fish, couldn't resist. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Cheers,

BB 66

P.S. Does this mean I have to limit my favorite big grins? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

LOL! BB you got me figured out my friend http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Being the bright guy I am, Pete told me that animated gifs weren't an option. So in my way of thinking I said "Well, avatars aren't moving(animated) how 'bout that?" So I, in essence, "Opened mouth-inserted foot" http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif
