The idea of learning sessions on the IRC has been brought up a number of times. i think its a great idea and would love to see it happen. there only seems to be one problem in getting it going and that's the time and the difficulty of being there for all those in different time zones. maybe the thing to do is not worry about the time so much just try it out and let the time, date and subject be convent for the one giving the session. Keep it all fluid that way adjustments will be easy to make.

Well, I think it sounds great, and I really need something like that. It sounds like a plan to have whoever is cooridnating it be the one to set the time, and other people can work around it. Looking forward to it.

Several people have been on the IRC channel at various times, but so far nothing has been scheduled. Everyone interested let me know when a convenient time would be, and what time zone you are in, and we'll try to get something figured out. I'd like to see it come together, it sounds like it should be a good thing.

A good time for me would probably be either 8:00 p.m. central time or 10:00 p.m. central time. 9:00 is no good as it interferes with Star Trek hour...heehee http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

I'm thinking a bit earlier in the evening. 10PM Central would be 11PM for those on the East coast. That's pretty late. Many have to work the next day. I'm usually ready to call it a night by around 10. Then again, I'm also usually up by 4-5AM...

I thought something like 6 or 7PM central, that would still be a bit early on the west coast, but not too late for someone in Virginia, or Vermont, or Florida...for example.

Weekends might not be quite as difficult, but some people like to go out...those who do actually have lives anyway...as opposed to those of us who sit in front of computers forever...hey I stop to eat now and then!.. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

That sounds okay, depending on what days of the week...soccer season is just about to start. Is this something that would be once a week? Just out of curiousity...would each session have a theme or would it be a sort of random question&answer type thing?

I think the most likely time to put together a definite group session would be weekends, everyone might have a batter chance of finding some free time. Weekdays might work, we'd have to see how it would work into peoples' schedules. Guess we'll have to play it by ear, find out what times are acceptible all around.

Probably will be a bit of both specific topics and Q&A, and even at those times we would have a specific presentation, a Q&A afterward would be almost mandantory. I'm trying to come up with some ideas for things to focus on such as basic components assembly procedures, memory issues, software installation procedures, etc.

One thing I thought of was checking through my books and looking up certain areas that will be of interest, and try and condense as much as I can while still covering plenty ground. And of course the group would be suggesting topics they would like to cover, set up a time for a few days later and give someone time to dig up as much info as possible and give us all he or she knows, and especially areas where one person in particular specializes.
