Welcome to the http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif forums.

What's not to like about it? Besides Vista...

Very nice system. Enjoy! :D

There's lots of Vista bashing going on. Read this (http://www.maximumpc.com/2007/01/10_reasons_you.html) for starters. Number 7 is the kicker for me.

Surely there are some patches and fixes out by now. Plus on number 10. I would answer yes as i have a dx10 card and i am awaiting crysis lol.

Number 1 doesn't bother me at all. Most people either have a good enough machine to handle vista, or will be due for a new machine soon anyway. And hardware is cheap and fast these days.

However, I do feel bad for those that make the mistake of getting one of those $500-$600 laptops with 512MB ram and onboard video with vista basic on it.

It's 2-9 that does really bother me.

And no there aren't any major patches out yet. It's only been on the shelves for 5 weeks. Don't look for any major updates for a few months. MS is very bad about getting updates out in a timely manor.

Most of the drivers you can get for vista are "beta" drivers. So it's hit and miss with them.

But hey there are some people that haven't had much of a problem with vista. I think it is a matter of they happened to have the right hardware and software combination, and the moon and Venus aligned at just the right time. Perhaps if you offer a sacrifice to the computer gods vista will work well for you. Maybe burn some programming books while shaking a circuit board and quietly chanting- "microsoft, microsoft, bill gates, bill gates"... :p :D

Do let us know how you get on with vista though. It's always good to hear one way or the other how its going.

They didn't go into the fact that the reason for #2 is the same reason for #7...

The audio is 'broken' on purpose for DRM reasons...basically what it breaks down to is ANY digital media content now has to pass through the OS before being passed on to the hardware to handle it.

...and then only if it decides you have a right to play it. And then, if it decides you do have the right, it requires certain parts of the sound and/or video hardware be disabled so you can't possibly send it out of the computer and copy it in some unauthorized way, or otherwise use it in anyway it thinks you shouldn't.

Hardware manufacturers are supposed to be required to abide by this. This is why you can't get any good drivers for vista. It isn't because it hasn't been out for long. Vista had been in the works for what 5 years now? All the manufacturers have had ample time to get ready for vista. But they have to deal with this now.

Yeah, vista is great...
