I'll vote for that one, I could always use some Window tips. I learned one that's pretty cool by changing the "shutdown" screen in Win95. Dunno know if it works in Win98. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif but it probably does.

Might not be a bad idea. I could come up with a few. Shut down or navigate Windows without a mouse, put a quick launch icon for anything on the taskbar, etc. I'm sure some of the other folks here could come up with even better ones.

hehe yep Pete- you could put in a list of all those 'unknown' DOS commands..

'useless' windows key on keyboard is NOT so useless either. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

example: hold windows key and press d= shows desktop, hold win key and press e= shows explorer....... on and on ..

while holding control and pressing keys does other- things. : control- e, will get you search(in IE)

instead of having all these Tips, and Tweaks listed ALL OVER the board, it would be nice to have them all in one place for reference.

Sorry Randy, only know a small few essential ones. Start menu, Internet navigation...that's about it.

Windows key??? Don't have one of those critters on 1993 IBM keyboards.. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I never used the Windows key when I did have one, so I don't miss it...

the question now would be How does Charles feel about it?? hehe

Yep, that would be the bottom line. In a way I kinda like it, but how long would it be before we ran out of tidbits to post? Charles also has the Tip of the Day feature on the front page of the main site. Sounds like a pretty good idea though.

I'm sure several of the regs here could come up with interesting and obscure bits to post. I'm wondering what mjc and Ghost_Hacker could come up with...those guys never fail to amaze me, I manage to dig up lots of info on the net, but they both constantly find things I've searched for more than once...others too, it would be interesting to see just what found its way to a category of that nature.

Guess it's six of one, half dozen of the other...

If you guys like this idea, I can work it into the forum overhaul. Thanks for the suggestion.

winkey+pause/break=device manager
format c: /u unconditional format command

I also have a handy tip on managing the install of windows so that in the future you can reinstall the o/s without using a disk or losing any saved data. Also, how to locate the product key so you don't have to rely on having the manual. This can be done through dos. All I need to know is which forum would be most appropriate to post stuff like this in.
