Remember that rig #6 I was building which I couldn't get to to boot ?
I completed the project with all the usual stuff :
2 x Hdd's (40 & 120 resp)
CD Rom & DVD Rom
512 mem.
3 case fans
I-cute case
Abit mobo
Athlon XP chip 2400.
Floppy
Network card.
Graphics card.
Had the whole thing up and running. Put XP Home on the smaller of the two HDD's (nothing on the other it's just for storage). Had it running for a couple of days.
All of a sudden the old problem I had right from the start rose it's ugly head again.
Every time I pressed the power on button on the case I]nothing[/I]happened.
Now I've already sent one case back to Maplins in the belief that he on/off switch was faulty. And let's face it when you're building a new rig it doestake a lot of punishement.
Not believing lightening could strike twice, I had the switch to bits. With I-cute cases they are fairly easy to get at. I suspected a faulty connection at the front. I was to be disappointed. Couldn't find anything wrong with it.
Anyway, I tried the rig again later and it started !
Came down this morning and it didn't !
Ok I thought what the hell is wrong.
I have now stripped it back to barebones. CPU, PSU, mobo.
It started.
I added a reset switch.
It wouldn't start.
Pulled the plug out.
It started.
And so it went on, with no pattern.
At one point the CPU and mobo fan started when I pushed the power lead in, with none of the case lights lit.
Alright get on with the point of this post.
My PC starts when it feels like it !
Solution anybody ? Faulty PSU ? IT's 400W not enough ?
what do we think ?
any responses gratefully received.
All postcards to the looney bin please
