I have noticed alot of first time users create a post and then seem to never return.........

I was thinking that some of this "could" be due to the fact that some people may not really know how to track their post (Maybe Just a Little Confused)

Thought It would be a good idea if it is posible to make the "default" for email tracking set to automatically track a post, at least for first time users, if it is even posible to make it only for first timers.

Either way, even if its not posible to make it only for first timers, I think it would be a good idea to make it default to email tracking for the person creating the string.........

Just a thought!

Might not be a bad idea, let's see what Charles thinks.

Pete --

Regarding my post 'Resurrecting Old Topics' in PC World, I've noticed lately that
a lot of new members are replying to threads that are weeks and even months old.
Don't want to discourage participation, but practically speaking it's largely a waste of time.

Is there a way to 'lock' a thread, maybe by default, after a pre-determined period of time,
say if there has been no activity for two or three weeks since the last response was posted?

The oldies are great to have around for reference, but if they could
be made Read Only or something, it might be easier to manage.

The only way I know of to do that would be to manually lock each individual topic. Take a look at the number of them in each category and you'll have an idea why I don't even think about trying it...

I know it's sometimes a little irritating when newcomers revive older topics, but generally it doesn't happpen often, and when it does the people who do it catch up with us pretty soon, or realize the original poster is long gone, so I usually don't worry about it much, and after all, they are trying to help...

Good suggestion, AwARe (or is it AwArE? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif )
I'll think on this a bit. My only concern is that it might cause a lot of first-timers to get confused when they find themselves getting notifications without realizing the option existed. Some people get
really annoyed when they receive email and feel they shouldn't have....
