I am having an IBM PC with winXP & SP2. The PC was working properly. A few days back when I tried to access my c:\ it showed Access Denied. what could be the problem? Virus?

Its a permissions issue. Have you installed any new software such as Norton (http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nsw.nsf/docid/2001122707472207?OpenDocument&lg=en&ct=aa&seg=hho&src=hot).

Lots of Googles (http://www.google.ie/search?hl=en&q=C+Access+Denied&btnG=Google+Search&meta=) to sift through.

Did you follow the instructions for granting permissions as under step 2 (expanded for your version) in the first link I posted.

Yes but it didnt work. Now some more PC's in the Dept have the same problem. C:/ opens if I use the Explore option.

If it has spread to other PC in your building, then it is probably a virus
you should try a google search for c:/ access denied virus and see what that turns up, and then try this housecall (http://housecall.trendmicro.com/) (www.trendmicro.com)
Its a free Online Virus scanner that is different than Symantec Norton AntiVirus, and might detect a virus that Norton doesn't

You meant Dept (Department)?
In that case contact the system admin of your workplace.
