My uncle, who lives near Cambridge, has finally decided to ditch AOL, which is his BB provider. His telecom is TalkTalk and they are offering a good deal to provide a complete telecom/BB package. He has now heard that TalkTalk have a bad reputation and so has procrastinated about switching from AOL.

Are there any UK-based Peeps that have experiences good or bad of ADSL providers in the UK and, in particular, any comments on TalkTalk.

I just did a Google search on them...no personal experience on this side of the pond...

Most gave the "advantage" as cheap...

Disadvantage: everything else :D

I have Wanadoo, ( now Orange) and it works! also had experience of Tiscali, and again, set it up, it works, and keeps on working! I wouldn't now touch BT, since they have linked up with Yahoo. Installs more rubbish than AOhell!

According to the UK TV program "WatchDog" there are problems with just about all of the broadband companies. Not so much in the broadband they offer but within the customer service they provide if/when it goes wrong.

A member of my family uses Talk Talk and it costs her nothing and she's had no problems with it however according to Watchdog they have now over-subscribed and actually getting connected and receiving support afterwards is now nigh on impossible - They may say a week but in reality????

I personally use Tiscali and I've had no problems (3+ years). Other members of my family have used AOL and had nothing but trouble.

The best package will depend greatly on your available line speed. There are various websites easily found on a google search that will test the speed available to you and offer companies availables price lists and package deals.

I've always liked Talk Talk. Big fan!

But AOL isnt too bad anymore, i believe they have changed. They offer FREE dial up, which is great if you dont have any cash on hand. What kills me is their slogan they had previously to the one they have now:

The New AOL: We've Changed

It seems like there's not a lot of difference between a wide range of providers. One of the problems with AOL is that you have to fire-up the AOL browser to get on-line and then keep it minimized if you want to run other internet browsers or mail clients. Thanks for the ideas in any case.

Give this place a look see - http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/ always has good fair reviews on most of the ADSL and Cable ISP`s.

I use Cable through NTL.
