I have a gateway 7330gz, I went to use the restore disk's and after going through all 5 recovery disks it would lock up. I than used the xp home cd that came with the laptop. I had to install all the drivers manually though. I have everything working except for the ethernet jack. I tried using the driver on gateways website, followed there directions and it wont work. I go into device manager and update driver from a specific location. And use the folder that i just dl off gateways site for the driver, click okay. Than it says the hardware could not be installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software. I had to explore the recovery disks for drivers to get most of them.

I figured it out, I needed to install the ethernet driver from a 6000 series and it worked. I dont know why the one specified for it on gateway's site did not work though.

1. When all's well with the software [and its matching hardware of course]...
Begin making image backups.
2. Use a program [like "Image for DOS" or "Acronis True Image"] that loads from a bootble disk [floppy or CD or DVD], works outside of Windows, and can save to [or restore from] image files on various possible media [USB HDD, internal HDD, optical disk].
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. It's a good idea to move ALL your data files off C: to various other partitions according to data type or file size.
4. Also good to use [something like] the FREE version of "SyncBack" to synchronise your data partitions [the "sources"] to "destinations" [in folders on partitions] on an external USB2 HDD or USB2 "Flash Drive".
This means you have 2nd copies of all your data files, and when you "synchronise", can see the source files [when compared to the "destination" copies] being deleted, created, and altered.
5.
a. Images are a snapshot of the files [on a partition] at some time in the past; they are not the latest copy, but can be used to restore a working copy of the Windows partition.
b. Synchronised copies on the "destination" are the latest state of the files at the last synchronisation, which takes only a few minutes and is done at least every day [or even more frequently].
Only the latest paid-for version of "SyncBack" can synchronise C: which has Windows system files in use.
The FREE version will synchronise all but about 22 files [those in use], and list those files in RED, so that info can be interesting/useful.

I am having the exact same problem. Can you tell me how you decided which of the 6000 drivers to install? Each time I install, I get a yellow bang for Ethernet Driver and NIC is non functional except for wireless.
Thanks,
Chris

I tried another and it worked (D00267). Thanks for the clue on what to do. TS chat agent said I could get the answer for $199.
Thanks,
Chris

This was a great post. I had a hard time finding the network driver for a 7330gz. I easily found the 6000 series network driver (D00267) by searching "Gateway 6000 network driver" via Google. Thanks so much!
