Hi,
I just finished a new build using the new DP965LT motherboard from Intel. It's supposed to have a speaker on the board (???) and as a result, has no place to plug in the case's speaker wire. The machine has posted and run beautifully, no problems with anything, but I'm missing the beep. Is the "speaker" wire (it's even labelled), a thin little black and red thing with 4 little prongholes able to be plugged in to one of the fan spots on the board?
This isn't much of a problem now -but it could be later.
Thanks!
Val

No you can't plug the speaker in to a fan header on the motherboard it will blow the speaker!

If the lack of a beep isn't causing problems I wouldn't worry about it. Just tie the speaker wire up out of the way. As long as your video is working you will know that your PC is completing POST.

The specs certainly show an on-board speaker; CC in the attached pic.

Not all boards produce a beep on a successful POST - some only do it after exiting the BIOS setup, for example, but you should get Beeps if you remove all the RAM.

According to the white pages on this motherboard, the speaker is on the motherboard. Many of the newer boards are using an onboard piezo speaker to produce BIOS beep codes...

As rond suggested, just tie the speaker wire up and put it out of the way...

THe onboard speaker doesn't beep unless there's a problem, I guess. Everything is running great. Thanks for the answers (and saving my speaker!!)Val
