Ok, so I have been having sound issues. Everything had been working fine for a long time and all of a sudden I get this problem. I haven't made any software or hardware changes except updating with microsoft.
The problem is this, when I play any type of audio file, my mouse clicks no longer work. The audio file will play, but then I cannot do anything because I can no longer click. The mouse will move around and the keyboard will work, but no I can't click. Any help is appreciated.

Welcome tohttp://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif Forums!

What operating system are you using? Have you looked in Device Manager for any anomalies (i.e., ! or ??

I would suggest going into Add/Remove programs and remove the Audio and then Reinstall...

windows xp sp2. I tried disabling the sound devices in the device manager, still no go. Nothing strange in there either. I have an onboard sound card if that helps. I don't know much about audio devices.

My thought would be to remove and reinstall the sound card drivers first...

In Add/Remove Programs you should find the Audio software...which you would want to remove and reinstall. It could be that the drivers have simply become corrupted.

Before you reinstall the sound drivers you might want to reboot and see if your mouse control returns.

That worked. Can't believe I didn't think to try that. Thanks for all your help.

If all's now well with your software...

Begin making image backups of your partitions [particularly of C: that matches this hardware setup] when the software is working "as you like it".

In future, as you move forward from day-to-day with changes being made [not always for the better], if you so much as suspect that all's not well with the software, just restore a suitable image.

BINGO; problem gone! :)
