When I switch from my default identity to my business identity, OE opens up with a screen resolution of 800 X 600. My normal screen resolution is 1024 x 768. It will stay like that for about 20 seconds, the screen goes black and then it resumes the normal resolution. Any ideas?

My thanks in advance!

Which Windows version?
Which file system in use [NTFS or FAT]?

Just guessing...

1. Something specific to only that identity in OE, right?

2. The dbx files for that identity?
Something wrong with them?
Or just so many of them that Windows struggles to read all the data in them in preparation for the display in OE.
Scan your partition file system [using MS Scandisk if FAT32 or chkdsk if NTFS] to make sure all is well.

3. Something amiss with the registry settings for this identity of OE?
Scan the registry with something that fixes errors, or try XP's No-Reformat, Nondestructive Total-Rebuild Option (http://www.informationweek.com/windows/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=189400897) [if XP], using a slipsteamed installation CD that includes the lates service packs (http://www.iol.ie/~krakowangus/bootupwininstall.htm).

4. For the future...
a. Move all your data files off C:
b. Make image backups of C: [and other partitions too] at key points when all's well. This as you move forward in time with software changes being made [not always for the better].
c. When you so much as suspect that all is not as it aught to be, just restore an image of C:
All your data files will remain unaffected, and the problem will be gone.

5. I've noticed from using "SyncBack" on my D: partition [see below what I keep there], that every time I access an OE identity, ALL the email folder dbx files have their date and time updated.
Those updated files would be accessed every time you access an OE identity.
Don't know if that plays any part.

Thanks for the reply Sylvander. I took your advice and cleaned up some things, which I'm sure will help down the road, but I actually ended up stumbling on the answer to the problem. Somehow, the options were set to use my electronic business card as stationary. Once I removed that it worked fine, and I actually prefer to insert the card on an "as needed" situation.

Again, thanks for your help!

This sounds most fishy and as if some script is running, maybe from some underlying html in a visible eMail, to do this. If you are using the preview pane (View >> Layout >> Preview Pane) then turn it off and open OE again and see if it still swaps resolutions. Consider scanning your system for malware of some kind.

I see you posted in the interim. Out of interest what is this electronic business card more precisely? It's rare for apps (other than games running in their own full screen mode windows) to alter the screen resolution.

It's an electronic business card I received when I ordered my business cards online from Vista Print. I don't know how it was set as stationary, but OE seems to be working as usual since I removed it.
