On booy up goy message "System device Conflict" dumped everthing formated the hard drive, loaded all software/drivers back in found out it was modem giving conflict, now no sound, checked all codec's drivers and multimedia settings, started from scratch i.e dumped all sound settings for board still no sound.
System is an old Gateway2000 Pentium 120-16 Mram 1.2g hd with extra 2g hd any sugestions welcome,( No I cant afford a new system) Sound board is a Yamaha.

Sorry to hear about the problem. Was everything working OK before?
It sounds to me like there is a hardware resource conflict. The first thing I would suggest is going into the Device Manager. Look for any yellow circles with "!" in them. These indicate devices that are conflicting or having problems. Check the resource usage on these devices and make sure they aren't trying to each grab the same IRQ, DMA or I/O addresses.
You might also have some luck getting updated drivers. Check the Yamaha web site for drivers appropriate to the sound card model you have.
