a topic that I started has moved forums. I didn't know that it had, I had it set to track topic, didn't recieve an e-mail, & when I visited the site there were no replies against it,, so I didn't bother to open it.
thing is that I've been on hols & just found it on another forum, with a reply & asking a question. Thing is that I could have missed it altogether & left it unanswered, which makes me feel bad, as I feel that when another member takes the trouble to try to help, I should at least respond with a result or whatever.
My favourite forum is 'How do I' which I visit ever day, but rarely have time to visit much of the other sections.
This is I feel a flaw in the otherwise excellent forums.
Ideally I would say that ALL members tracking a forum should be notified that a topic has moved. Is this possible?

I don't know if automatic notification that a topic has been moved is possible, but when I move one it's usually because it was posted in the wrong place, so I move it to an appropriate forum. If you have a question posted, it might be a good idea to check the site and see now and then. If your topic has been moved, rather than deleted, a notice is posted at the top of the topic to inform you and others that it has been moved, and to where.

I appreciate what your saying Pete, & I accept that it was better suited to the other forum & that you were correct to move it.
But I DO check the postings, and from the main page there were 0 replies against it, therefore I assumed that nobody had posted a reply. Similarly when checking other postings I look at the number of replies and the name of the last member to see if anything has changed, if not I do not open the topic, hence do not see the message that the topic has been moved.
I wonder how many other members do the same thing? The alternative is to open every topic that you have viewed the previous day or whatever, and I suspect that many have limited time & like me go direct to their favourite forum, then browse the others if time permits.
Like I said, if its possible to e-mail members (particulary topic starters & members 'tracking' the topic,) it would be a great improvement. & prevent members 'missing' the move as I nearly did & effectively terminating unfinished topics.
It is of course an excellent site (many are total rubbish in comparison) but if it IS possible to improve said situation, I think it would be well worth the while.

It's just occurred to me that when a topic is moved to another forum it (apparently) loses the tracking links.
Could that be an option? ie. to keep the tracking links intact when the topic is moved?

I always just view from the "Todays active topics" page unless I'm searching for something, doesnt directly solve the problem as you would have to view it daily but it allows you to view all the different forums so that youre keeping your learning curve wide.

haven't done that before. but am doing it now. as you say it widens your learning curve. but it doesn't solve the problem as like you say, you only have to miss one day!
