Hello There!

I'm very new to this forum and would like some help please.

I've been converting avi to dvd, and burning with no problems.
My space was at 3%! and with that my pc then started to turn it's self off with no warning only when converting and burning.

I used Window Washer to clear out the files and have 15G free.

Tried to do the Disc Cleanup on the System and Defrag - and the system shut down.
Now each time I try and convert it shuts down.

I have no idea where to look for the problem!
It took me 15 mins to open a new thread!!

I have read that it might be the cpu? or overheating? but I have no idea where to look to see if they are working properly.
It's getting frustrating.

If you can help - can you please tell me exactly how to do anything as I have no understanding of computers at all.
Thanks

Hello

I have no idea if I'm in the right forum, as I've posted one in Hardware too!
No very good at this pc lark.

Anyway, when converting avi to dvd files my pc shuts down.
It gets about 10% in and closes the pc.
I've used Windows Washer to clean and tried to do Disc clean and Defrag and the same happened.

It was al ok until my disc space was low and it started from there. Don't know what to do or how to resolve. Can someone help please.

Thanks

The cause can be either hardware or software related.

First, let's make sure the CPU and system are not overheating. You can check their temperature in BIOS by pressing and holding the key that's specified on the 1st or 2nd screen during startup to "Enter CMOS", "Enter Setup", or similar. That should take you to the main CMOS menu. Look for a menu item labeled "PC Health Status" or similar. Highlight it using the arrow keys, press the Enter key, and look for 2 items labeled "CPU Temperature" and "System Temperature", or similar. They should read 60 C or less, and 40 C or less, respectively.
If either is higher than those temps, then press the Esc key until the main CMOS menu reappears, highlight "Exit Without Saving" or similar, press Enter, press the Y key if a prompt appears asking if you want to "Exit without saving the changes", press Enter, turn off the computer, remove the computer's protective cover, turn it back on, and make sure the CPU's fan and all system fans are running. If they're ok, then turn off the computer, disconnect the power cord, and clean any dust that's collected on the fans and heatsinks and inside the computer's case, and make sure all of the computer's vents are clean and unobstructed.

Post back with your findings, and also post your system's specs and O/S. Thanks.

Hello there.
Thanks for your reply.
In the end we did a full system reformate and took it back to factory settings.
We believe it to be a corrupt file!!
Cheers
