Don't know where this goes, but, I have to ask after seeing the post of cmos clock, what exactly does the FAQ Archive exist of? I know you are the mod and can do whatever you want, but, if people are going to spend their time looking at something in FAQ, I would hope it would be something worthwhile. That wasn't IMO, That had absolutely nothing to do w/ anything at all except for seeing you helping someone, and was just curious what constituted an FAQ Archive.

FAQ means Frequently Asked Questions. I realize the question concerning the clock not keeping the correct time is not an exceptionally common question, but it is fairly common to have a clock that gains or loses time. Usually not to that degree...more like a minute or two per week or so. Most people just live with it, maybe now some of them will see that post and realize how easy it is to get the clock right, and try it. That's the primary purpose of the FAQ.

I put it there, as I do with most of the things I put in FAQ, so other people might be able to find a solution to an existing problem in FAQ and not have to actually post a question. I haven't transferred very many yet, I look for topics with good solutions, preferably not too long, and if at all possible with a response indicating that the solutions posted did solve the problem.

I'm still looking, but it takes time. I'll gradually be moving more to the FAQ section in time, we have plenty topics now that I'm sure I can find good ones, but it is slow...

To answer your primary question
what exactly does the FAQ Archive exist of?

The FAQ consists of whatever I can find concerning common computer problems that have been covered in the forums, and preferably with clear, correct and concise answers. Who provides those answers does not matter...as long as they are correct and understandable.

Thanks for not taking my question the wrong way, seeing all your previous posts I didn't think you would, which is the only reason I felt like I could ask that question, I wouldn't anywhere else, but, I was a little worried after I hit the submit button and read what I posted. That just goes to show the person you are. I appreciate you taking the time explaining to me the answer. Thanks. I was just curious.

No problem...

I thought that one would be a good one for FAQ, so I transferred it. Most people who have a clock that runs fast or slow don't know they can correct it, and I'm surprised we don't see questions about it more often.

Your comments in your response tend to reinforce my conviction that I've accomplished what I set out to do when I accepted the position of Moderator here. In many cases the moderators of other forums would not tolerate their actions being questioned. I wanted the PC Guide to be a truly open forum, where even the Moderator can be questioned or corrected without fear of being chastised. As long as it's done without indulging in a confrontational attitude, it's no problem with me. I'll try to provide the best answer I can, or mediate if necessary when it involves other participants.

Look for more in the FAQ in the future, but it's slow, since I don't really have the time I would like to devote to it, just keeping up takes long enough...The nod monster usually gets me before I get very far into the older posts...

I'm hoping I can make it a decent FAQ someday, where people can go and find answers to many of the more common questions, but it's not easy to go through the tremendous number of topics we now have and find the best ones, with good solutions...

Pete i tip my hat to you; you've demostrated more than once a patience and temperment suited to a gentelmen that most tech support people never have ( even myself included ). One of the hardest things to do in life is deal with people-doesn't matter how much you know about a subject, if you can't present it to a person in a reasonable manner-then you'll never get anywhere, and most likely wind up out a job.

I recall a business luncheon i attended a year ago in which our company coverd the interpersonal relationships ( and how it doesn't matter if you're a genious if you can't get along with co-workers ) and how the YMCA had done a study showing that %85 of the employees who have been fired were due to personnel confilcts and not lack of technical skills.

You've demonstrated this patience with myself at least once so far, and i appreciate it. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif As you get older and spend more time in the business world, you began to realize that it's not the next project around the corner that's the priority as is the welfare of the people who work for/with you.

iisbob: Thanks for the compliments, I certainly appreciate it. I saw in the topic in After Hours that you had decided to take a break and "clear your head" so to speak, before continuing to participate after the incident referred to above. So far I've neglected to respond, mainly because I needed to take some time myself and make sure I could respond without animosity.

I'm glad to see you back with us, and I'm sure others are too. Your responses to users' questions in the past have shown a comprehensive knowledge of computers, and aside from a spelling error now and then, clear and concise delivery. We all make spelling mistakes so that's no big deal...

At any rate, it's good to have you back with us, I consider your assistance an asset to the forums, along with more others than I care to try and name...Patience is sometimes difficult, I realize that more than you may know, and I applaud the ability of all the participants here to keep their tempers in check. So far, I think we've done exceptionally well in that respect, no other forum I know of has the kind of atmosphere and attitude we have here, and I for one, LOVE IT!

Great job all, keep it up!

I believe that's because he checks his ego at the door. And worries more about the Forums than himself, imo. My GF even said after I posted "Why are you being so rude?" I just looked at her like she was nuts. I just don't get it sometimes I think. Any other Mod that I know on a BB would have let me have it probably because I asked a question. That's what's great about this forum. I'm just going to make sure I don't do it again. Just incase. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/eek.gif
BTW, I agree with Pete, I'm really glad you didn't leave either. You're a wealth of knowledge.

I'm just going to make sure I don't do it again. Just incase.

Any time you have a question or suggestion, that's the purpose of the Suggestion Box, and I always try to respond in the same manner as in this topic. It might rub me the wrong way at first, your question did, but I went about my business and came back to it later after I had time to give it some consideration. It was a valid question, so I treated it as such.

That's the way I always handle topics or situations that get me riled, I leave it alone and deal with it later when I can handle it in a reasonable manner. It wouldn't do for me to expect people on this forum to keep their tempers in check while I let mine run wild at the least provocation.

So...any time you have a question, by all means ask. Don't worry about me getting angry or irritated, even if I do I'll simply leave it alone till I cool off. By the way, your question did not make me angry, I was a bit irritated for a few minutes, but no big deal. Didn't take 10 minutes or so till I was ready to come back and compose a response. It was a legitimate question even if the way it was worded made it seem accusatory. I have to realize also that it's not possible on here to see facial expressions and body language, so I tend to assume, if possible, that it's not intended to be inflammatory.
