a section were one could post stuff they would like to buy, sell, trade or even give away may be useful. Now I know there are auction sites where you can do this but with the bb other members could offer suggestions and such,
of course there would need to be some rules and guidlines such as transactions need to be done 1-on-1 via email and such.
I don't know,its just a idea

What do you think??

Cheers,

I think this could be a good thing also. I loathe the abuse from vendors as they will attempt to use this portion of the site for advertising. I do believe it is good mainly for the networking possibilities of people with parts and people with need of those parts. If not jumping into the whole sale issue it could be just a posting area with contact info where the site would not have to be involved as a middle man except for the information/availability transfer from trusted members. Sticky subject...

I guess it would be nice in a way, but don't get your hopes up, due to the aforementioned possibility of vendor abuse. If my guess is even close they would keep me busy constantly deleting advertisements.

We already had one guy post advertisements twice here, the second one after he had been notified by Charles that selling was not allowed on the forums.

I doubt if it would be a problem if individuals were to offer their spare parts when someone needs a hard to find item, as long as it didn't start looking like someone is running an online business through the forums, but again as mentioned above, it would still be a can of worms if it got out of hand.

Guess all we can do is see what Charles thinks, it's his final decision, all I can do is offer an opinion. My opinion? Don't get your hopes up...

Thanks for the suggestion and ideas, folks.
I'll admit that I certainly considered doing this, but I'm afraid of the hassles that will result. By involving the site in transactions, it ultimately makes me involved in deals gone awry, people who are unhappy with what they buy, etc. I'm willing to be convinced otherwise, but it seems to me that there are already hundreds of venues for this sort of transaction that would be more appropriate.

Being a 'neophyte geek', or whatever it is I am, perhaps it's not my place to chime in, but I think it's a great idea.

Over the past week or so, I've been doing much reading and not a little learning at this site, and at www.sysopt.com (http://www.sysopt.com) They at sysopt.com have a buy/sell/trade sort of forum, and from what I gather it works pretty well, sort of self-regulating.

Another forum-site, whose name escapes me, has a "Steals and Deals" forum where people post the best deals they've come across. Pretty interesting stuff...

Maybe it's an administrative hassle, but in my visits there I didn't encounter spamming sort of activity, just links to and notifications of good deals people have found, free after rebates, that sort of thing...
