I am so jealous as I type this on my P4 with Windows 2000......

Enjoy...... They build great PC's.....

I found one flaw, when I searched additional memory at Crucial I found the memory they used was not compatible for dual channel upgrade but the main board has that compatibility, so going that route will require both chips.
I ran SIW and the temps are 25 Celsius on both cores after an application is run, love the new lower heat processors.

I thought the board was dual channel and not the memory. DDR is DDR. So you should be able to drop another chip in there and if the mobo supports dual channel you will have it. I could be 100% wrong. I don't think you will notice any performance difference with the apps you run...

The Crucial site says it cannot find matching memory to the one installed. SIW says it is 666 (PC2-5300) installed.
The board is dual channel capable.
I could get a single 1 gig PC2-5300 chip from Crucial which may or may not match, or two 1 gig matching chips:
http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=AAAAFD2FA5CA7304

The price on one chip is $67, the price on matching pair is $135. Guess which direction I am probably heading?

Do you want more RAM?

I generally upgrade the RAM, not an urgent item since the PC is already fast.
Darned fast.
:D

It is the ram that is dual channel. But the existing stick may be a different density than what Crucial uses (standard). If the original stick is an odd density it may break dual channel mode.

That's the only thing I can think of anyway.

If you have the cash I would get 2x1gb from newegg and save the other stick for backup and testing. Dual channel is worth it IMO.

You should be able to find 2x1gb DDR2-667 cheaper at newegg.

Sorry I don't have a link for you, but I'm on my pda at the moment. Perhaps later when I get my compter room back together.

Thanks for the reply, jlreich.
Matched pair is something I did not consider when spec'ing the PC but if you can get more than 1 Gig of bang when adding 1 Gig of RAM it makes sense.
The fault lies here, not with CS on the issue. (Brain fart)

Looked but no better deals today, everything is either PC6400 or small sizes.

I've been reading up and don't see anywhere where the RAM is dual channel. DDR (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dual-channel) is by definition dual channel. In order to take advantage of dual channel the motherboard must support it and the RAM must be installed in pairs. In the case of the way PR uses the PC, I don't know if he would gain anything significant by going dual channel.

PR, if you want more RAM, we'll call Seneca and have them ship you and identical chip....

I am sorry, I don't know what I was thinking. I didn't mean to say it like that. Besides needing matching sticks dual channel has nothing to do with the ram itself.

Surfing with a pda must be melting my brain. I really need to finish painting my computer room.

I do agree having them send out an identical stick is probably the best and cheapest way to go.

Sorry for the double post, but now that I have my computer room done (mostly :p ) I can actually see a full size picture of the new machine. Very nice PrntRhd.

BTW, I just want to make it clear I wasn't saying anything bad towards Classic, the new machine or its manufacturer. :)

Just a note, Classic is getting the exact spec of RAM nailed down with the builder to allow an appropriate matching stick should I decide to add more. The mainboard has color coded memory slots to indicate which slot pairs should be used for dual channel.

I didn't think you were nor did I take it that way at all..... I just was confused about the dual channel thing.....
