Copying data is going to very hard to prevent. If you can get the text on the screen you can even print screen and use OCR to get it back into text.
You can protect the text in programs such as Adobe's pdf files such that the text cant be directly copied so I would look to the types of file that might be created and used rather than trying to protect the disk as a whole.

You can use software such as http://www.sharewareconnection.com/cdshield-se.htm or google for CD-Potection Software (http://www.google.ie/search?hl=en&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=%22cd-protection%22+software&spell=1) or similar and attempt to prevent copying and ripping. It will, I suspect, be a thankless task against any determined or even many novice hackers.

I hang around a forum where there are a number professional DVD creators. This subject comes up frequently and the consensus over there is the same as Paul said. Don't bother protecting DVDs from getting copied. There is always a way.
