Hi all,
I'm having connectivity issues with my wireless network at home. I have cable internet connected to a Netgear WGR614v5 wireless router. My desktop PC is connected to the router via wire connection and my wife's work laptop is connected via wireless.
The wireless connection recently started to disconnect very frequently - like every couple of minutes. I put in a new wireless card last night. It connected for a couple of minutes and then it disconnected again. I then decided to upgrade the firmware which requires resetting all of the router settings to the factory settings and then inputting all of the settings (access list, etc.) manually. I did all that and now I can not get a connection at all.
When I try to connect wirelessly, it gets to the point where it's "acquiring network address" and that's where it seems to have the problem.
So, does anyone have any advice to help troubleshoot this problem.
Generally, I'm wondering:
1. Is it just a matter of the configuration settings on my wife's laptop and/or router that is preventing the network address from being picked up? If so, what settings do I need to make sure match up and whatnot?
2. Is it possible the router is bad and not transmitting properly (i.e. can the wired connection of the router work while the wireless connection not work)?
Thanks in advance for any help and advice!
