I'm having a problem with this old pc I have. Any advice is welcome and much appreciated. Computer wasnt working to well so i was going to reinstall everything thought it might help. Running win 98. kept getting that blue screen of death. Well I entered the set up and seen the overheat function was turned off. Well when I enabled it and rebooted the pc wouldnt come back on. When I try and turn it on the cpu fan kicks on for like 3 seconds but then cuts off. It doesnt boot up or nothing. I took the side off and looked inside and there is 4 little LED lights with abbr of pwr, sby, hdd, rst. all 4 light up while fan is running but then all goes dead but the sby light. So if anyone can let me know if I have just destroyed the pc or if there is a way to fix it would be greatly appreciated.

1) Get a new CPU fan and install it.
2) Clear CMOS memory, turn on the PC and set BIOS options to their previous values.

I have this old pc running win 98. I have lost my recovery disk. Is there anyway to do a system recovery or a repair with out one? Or perhaps a program I can download to fix it without purchasing another copy of Win 98?

You could run the Emergency Boot CD [EBCD] (http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?t=41485) "Win98/ME Registry Tool" to scan/fix the registry.

If you manage to get Win98 running well, you could use the free trial version of "Image for DOS" included on the EBCD, to save images of the Windows partition [C:][made at various points in time when all's well] to a folder on some other internal partition [not on a USB device].
That could then be used at any time to restore the Windows [C:] partition to that state recorded in the chosen image.

You may want to keep your posts in the thread you already started pertaining to this pc here (http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?p=340534#post340534)

Your blue screens could be hardware problems. Please post what the errors you are experiencing here, the mods will merge the 2 threads if they see fit.
You could get 98SE for $48 (http://www.pricewatch.com/software_oper_system/windows_98_se.htm) if needed.
