ok so i've got a piece of hardware that i'm trying to get into... its a mini hard drive and I thought it was a 44pin connector, but it seems i was wrong.

Anyone have any idea's?

Pictures are attached, and the measurement unit there is an inch (ie its just over 3/4 of an inch wide).

A little more info please. What is this board is and how wide is the hard drive itself? If this is a digital studio, it's probably a laptop drive.

2.5 inch is laptop
3.5 is desktop

A cable for a laptop would be slightly smaller than a regular (40 and 80 pin) ide cable.

It looks more like a video ( LCD flat) and or cam corder cable

Macro shot ?

its nots a 2.5inch connector - I've tried one of those and it doesn't fit, however it is a min hard drive - I'm trying to get it figured out, ie what other sort of connection it could be!

have you ever heard of anything other than the 2.5" or 3.5"?

It is an 80gig drive, and measures about 1"x2".

They also make 1.8" drives that use a CF interface. Might be one of those.

So what is this hard drive connected to? Is there any markings on the drive itself or is it painted white?!?! What about the circuit board in your pic? You've offered nothing in a way for us to be able to assist you and in fact have opted to post a blurry picture of a connector when the drive is apparently there with you.

FTT,

Not helpful responses, but I am not sure how this is troll behavior...

Serial numbers, model number, manufacturer, picture...of the drive??

The drive itself is the issue...if we can determine the drive the connector will follow...

have you ever heard of anything other than the 2.5" or 3.5"?Of course! HDD's have been made in all sorts of formats. The other more common 0.8" comes to mind, which is probably what this is. A variant on the micro-drive or something similar, but obviously proprietary in nature.

I do agree with the others, though. If you would just read the responses and tell us where you got the drive, that would help immensely. Or did it just fall into your lap with no stickers or other ID whatsoever?

It was a ZIF connector

It was a ZIF connector

ZIF = Zero Insertion Force which refers primarily to the slot you plug a CPU into... It really doesn't have much of anything to do with hard drives... If you are trying to be a troll, you are doing pretty well, but you are not providing the information people are asking you for... If you don't know, then say that... However, as was said, you really only need to look at the label on the drive and type that info here for people to know what you are talking about and give you the help you claim to need... If you are not willing to do that, I can only believe that you are here to be a troll and not really to get help... Please clarify...

Here is info on ZIF:

He's taunting us, that's for sure.

ZIF is not just a socket as most of us assume, it has a broader meaning as I learned giving mr. 'One-Liner' the benefit of the doubt and found This (http://images.google.com/images?client=firefox-a&channel=s&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&hl=en&q=ZIF&btnG=Search+Images&gbv=2) about ZIF. I almost posted again but refrained at the time.

What I see here is just enough info to gather our curiosity but not enough to allow solving of a nonexistent problem.

Note that I am talking in third person now and that is the way it will remain.

If there was an actual problem or inquiry, he would be spilling his guts providing us with info in hopes of solving the 'riddle'.

Yep... I'm calling off the hunt for this one. Getting tired of this with some of our new members.
