View Full Version : Using new AP, Question on NAT

I was going to use a DG834G purely as an AP in my set up.

Question: The DG834G has a NAT option, ie on/off. Would I need to disable the NAT option in its configuration (as my router has NAT as enabled) or will the NAT in the DG834G not be enabled by default simply because the ADSL signal is not being fed into it (plus I have disabled DHCP). If you see what I mean.

Apologies for my poorly worded question

Cheers

If you disable DHCP I would probably disable NAT. Probably nothing would come of not disabling it. Basically NAT is a security feature. So doing double NAT would be another layer of security but, only from your router to your AP. It can cause headaches with port forwarding because both would need to be configured.

Many thanks for your reply Variable.

I must admit I tried it with NAT on and off in the AP. I did not notice any difference but in the end I opted for off.

I did try googling for it but did not get much insight (perhaps asking the wrong question). At least now I know what impact enabling NAT in the AP would have had.
