I downloaded Process Explorer just because i was curious to see what was up with my PC. I started using GAIM instead of AIM and a GREAT improvement!
But i dont think this is right...

What is the process supposed to do?
the worst thing that could happen is that it is some horribly programmed malicious software...haha

Hmmm.... I used to use Filselab and it worked just fine. Perhaps it's not compatible with ME or it's touchy?

I've used ZoneAlarm Free with Me, (not intending to rhyme), but it worked fine.
It's an old version of ZA however. Try Sygate too.

I got exactly the same when I ran the "AVG Anti-Spyware" program [loaded from the Startup list].
So I used "Startup Control Panel" to remove it from the startup list and I only run it manually when I feel the need.
I think it's the "Resident Shield" that uses all the CPU capacity.
Does that firewall provide "live" protection against infection?
BTW, how do you display such a big image, and how did you add the red ellipse and text?

Sylvander,
How do you expect something that is supposed to protect your pc in real-time to do what it supposed to if you disable it at start up and only run it at your leisure???
A/V's, firewalls and AVG's Anti-Spyware are supposed to run at all times, as well as a few other programs. I don't find it as good advice to be declaring what you do as an acceptable practice.
Sufferwell,
I use Sygate. It doesn't even register the CPU processes on my system and memory use is around 10Kb for both processes collectively. Trash the one you are using!

Syl,
What i do is use the normal Print Screen button, copy it in Paint, then edit and add what i feel i want. Then, i upload it to my Photobucket account (which ironcally is SufferWell1396 also :D) and use the link it gives me to post it here in the forums.
FTT,
Ive tried Sygate before, i wasnt very pleased with it. It was on Win2000 though, maybe it will be different with Me.

"How do you expect something that is supposed to protect your pc in real-time to do what it supposed to if you disable it at start up and only run it at your leisure"
Aha, there isn't much goes unnoticed by Eagle-eyed Ted. :)
Well obviously my PC isn't being protected by "Resident Shield".
I simply couldn't afford the hit on performance, and the feature was disabled anyway after the trial period was up, plus I do have other protections, so I don't feel unprotected.
"I don't find it as good advice to be declaring what you do as an acceptable practice"
Aaahh! I see what you mean.
I was simply explaining the fact...
That fact being that I responded to a certain situation in a certain way.
Didn't actually recommend it as "acceptable practice", but I see you felt that was implied [perhaps I should have someone pre-read all my posts eh? It's a minefield]
If I knew of better response to the problem I'd use it.
But I didn't see what else I could do in the circumstances, and I still don't see any better way out, but I'm open to ideas.
There has so far been no downside; no infection.
"copy it in Paint, then edit and add what i feel i want. Then, i upload it to my Photobucket account"
Right, got it.

Amazing that the firewalls that work are the ones recommended by MJC in the sticky post....Sygate, Kerio, ZA all work pretty well for their intended use.
