View Full Version : Desktop Items

I can't seem to figure out how to put a web page on my desktop as an item, not a background. I know how in XP but in Vista I can't find the place where one can go and do this. I hope MS didn't take this feature out. I like to put weather satellites on my desktop. I appreciate any info.

Sorry wiltrot I posted a reply for another thread by mistake - its now in the right place.
I don't have a vista to play with just now but would search its help for Customize Desktop for starters if you haven't already tried that.

I hadn't at the time but now I see nothing that would suggest how to.
There's only the help for desktop theme, backgroun, start menu, taskbar and sidebar.
I guess I'll have to call them.

Do you mean you want to show web content on your "Active Desktop"?
Anything like this?

Thanks Sylvander for the reply, but I don't think that's going to work in Windows Vista. That sounds like W2K.

It is indeed Win2K.
I'm surprised at how Microsoft invent some "wonderful" new feature, then discard it later as though of little value.
Today's marvel is tomorrows junk.
Or is it still in use in Vista, but going by a "new" name?

Yes, it appears that MS has left that feature out. Windows Vista tech support has confirmed it to be so. Thanks.

I like to put weather satellites on my desktop.
I'm not sure how Konfabulator or Yahoo Widgets (http://widgets.yahoo.com/) display things but perhaps that might be an approach you could contemplate.
