Hiya,
well what i would think would be sooo useful would be a way to Harvest the links that are included in so many of the replies, because frankly you can spend hours and hours following links looking for a proggy that will help you fix or diagnose a program or simply allow you to enhance your sys, i have found almost without exception that the links included in replies lead to good solid proggy's that do the job well.

so if we could find a way to harvest these links and add them to a page it would further enhance this site immmensly, and i am so sorry that times have caused the need for outside income to be a nessasity, and if i was a millionaire i would gladly donate mega $$$'s to allow it to be run as it was.. sadly i am not, guess i spend too much time on those love jobs, and helping others, which i really enjoy, and love, but it keeps me poor .. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

I don't know of any program that will do that, but some may be out there.

One thing you can try is checking the links in mjc's signature and mine, many of the more commonly posted links are in those pages, and I'm trying to update mine, but it may take a while.

If you want you can harvest your own links. What I have done is make a notepad document named links.txt and put a shortcut to it in the quick start tray when I find a link that looks interesting I can click on a link go to the page and copy the URL from the address bar to my links.txt and write a description explaining what the link is about. If I don't have time to go to the page I can right click on the link and choose properties and the last line in the property sheet will be the URL that the link is pointing to copy it to notepad and write a description from the post

There is a nifty little add-on for IE4 that still works in 5.5 (don't have 6 so I haven't tried it....) it is called IE4 Power Toys, one of the ings it does is add to the right click menu, when you right click on a Web-page, is a links list option. It will pop up a new window with a list of all the links on a page....

Strouds (http://cws.internet.com/ie-iepower.html) has asome good info on it and a link to the download...the download link is still active but I don't know for how long since IE 4 is one of the MS products that is no longer supported.

Why not just add a 'links' folder to 'favourites' ?

right click on the link, click favourites, click the links folder, click save. !!!

I have recently started an Access Database of Links/Bookmarks/Favorites/etc. It takes a little bit longer to save the Link originally - but at a later stage I can sort/filter/search etc etc to find it again or to find keywords/descriptions/company names etc etc. A spreadsheet such as Excel would work too for those not used to databases but would not be as easy to manipulate effectively. Right now I think its the 'bestest' way to have one's Links organised and is IMHO highly recommended.

One keyword that constantly recurs is (of course) "PC Guide" !! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/redface.gif http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hey Paul, good idea!

I understand that it would take a little time to set up but the end results could be worthwhile. I'm thinking, that if you created a form for the inputs, that it wouldn't be too time consuming. As you said, searching through many hundreds of links could be carried out with deadly accuracy. I feel another project coming on. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/tongue.gif

Oh no! I've just thought about blowing the dust of the old VB Editor http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/eek.gif

Spot on Geebee. I have a form for inputs with a couple of comboboxes for Keywords and URL-SiteType and with a shortcut to the DB in Quick Launch. Works great and is simple to back-up - even to floppy - unless youve got "billions" of links that is.

Also copying records from Table or Datasheet is a breeze for pasting into eMails, Word etc. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/tongue.gif
