Hi all,

When i check my storage disk management on my inspiron 6400. I have 3.1GB of unallocated Disk Space. I might be stupid, but is there a reason for this. Or could i just use this for personal use(extra partition).

Out of curiousity, whats the purpose for the partition with 78MB FAT Healthy (EISA configuration)?

Cheers

Are you sure it is unallocated or is it a hidden partition maybe. Dells often have a hidden partition with a factory image of the system stored on it for restoration purposes. If it is unallocated you can either create new partitions in it or expand an adjacent partition into the space.

Out of curiousity, whats the purpose for the partition with 78MB FAT Healthy (EISA configuration)? That sounds like a small Dell Diagnostics partition accessed from a special <hot key> during startup.

I agree. Don't touch the seemingly unallocated space. OEM's use all sorts of weird tricks for system recovery.

The FAT partition at the beginning of the drive could also be an MCE partition for watching movies and such without needing to fully boot into Windows. It depends on if your laptop supports this or not.

Cheers, thanks for the info guys. was tempting to just delete the additional partional and extend it to the primary.
