Hey guys!
Kinda new to wireless networking but here it goes..
Living in a 3 story townhouse, I did setup the wireless router (Linksys WRT54GL) on the first floor as all the feeds come into this room. There is a laptop (Dell Inspiron/XP HOME) running on the 2nd Floor. Another laptop on the 3rd floor (Sony/XP Media) which shows very good signal strength and running fine but today I got a used laptop (Toshiba /XP Pro) and bought a crapy 30$ wireless card (Trident) to be used in the toshiba laptop on the 3rd Floor. The laptop is showing 1Mbps low signal, but when I bring it down a floor its all good. Now the questions..
1) Should I get a better wireless card? Like Linksys for 60-70$.. and will this solve the problem ?
2) Second option was to buy another wireless router or an access point which could be setup as a bridge on the 3rd floor, so the WLAN could be extended, but
(a) I do not know how to setup a bridge on an access point or a router, within the same network. My guess was to use the same SSID and encryption on both the wireless routers!!!
(b) Someone told me that you can not link a wireless router and another wireless router together using the same SSID is that true ?
(c) I have heard of a linksys bridge, which i think is a little expensive if I have to buy, yet another wireless card and the bridge.! What do you think ?
3) Or should I just get a booster antenna from link sys which is about 50$, hook it up to the router downstairs and hope for the best..
I am trying to work out a best low cost solution.. all suggestions are welcomed and much appreciated.
Cheers !:)
