I am having some major issues with my computer and I'm not quite sure where they came from. I have this process that just boggs my processor. It's svchost.exe/ system/ it bogs the CPU at 99 and mem usage is at 62,084 K and I believe continues increasing. It will do this for quite a while before I'm able to do anything with the computer. While it's doing this I obviously can't do much of anything else. When I terminate it, everything seems fine for a short while and then my toolbar at the bottom changes to the old Win 98 scheme for a second and then goes back to the normal WinXP toolbar. I'm not quite sure what this is, but it's been bugging me for a while.

As of late another problem appeared, just yesterday as a matter of fact. I'm able to get into programs and such for a short while then suddenly I'm not able to do anything at all. I'm not able to open any programs including task manager, I'm not able to shut down, nothing. I push the power button to turn off the computer, everything shuts down, but the computer sticks on the desktop picture, though there's nothing on the desktop. I have to hold the power button down until the computer shuts completely down.

I've run a virus scan, Mcafee, run Ad-Aware, Spybot and have a Hijack this log that I'm going to include, but still don't see a problem. Any help on this issue would be great. Thank you.

If more information is needed, please let me know.

SVChost is a program that manages your services- try disabling some of those services using Manage Computer (right click on my computer and select manage and go to the services and read what you have running)
and turn off needless ones- BUT READ BEFORE YOU DEACTIVATE!!!

COULD also be a hidden virus...

Looks like you need to post your HJT log in the "Applications and Security" forum with a suitable title to get it noticed by those who know how to analyse HJT logs.

Once the software is clean of infection you can go from there. :)

If you want to check that the hardware [HDD not included] and BIOS are ok, then load and run Knoppix from a Knoppix Linux Live CD (http://www.knoppix.net/get.php).

Ok, thank you very much, both. I will post my hijack this log in another location and will check everything else out.

As far as the services, I don't see anything wrong with them or anything that shouldn't be there. Seems like something wants to be hidden, freeze my computer for a while and then continue on it's way. Wish I knew exactly what's going on. Again, thank you both.
