Hi I had to re-install my clients operating system. When I went to windows update, I tried authenticating to Windows Genuine Advantage. So I typed in the key found on the back of the XP Home pack.

I recevied a message telling me that this key had been registered more than once. The end user has had countless problems on his computer which has required multiple re-installations of the O/S in the past.

What can be done in this case?

Thanks

"activate by phone" should be an option available on the screen, you'll have to call india, i mean, microsoft and activate via telephone. You'll read your 25 digit key and they'll give you a huge string of numbers to punch in... and only one of you holds english as your native tongue :)

Windows Genuine Advantage (http://www.afterdawn.com/news/archive/6683.cfm) and Windows Product Activation are two different things. The former has been very buggy and problematic in a number of ways.
