View Full Version : Need two moderators?
diurnal

I think we need two moderators . When you look at the pcguide on the active posts link , there is like 60 posts daily. I know Pete can not possibly get to 60 posts daily, so i suggest MJC to be another moderator. I dont know if he should be a moderator over all the forums as pete is or just a moderator for just one category. With MJC a moderator it would take some pressure off Pete. But if he's got adminstrator priveleges then that would be as good as a moderator, but i think he deserves to be a moderator.
Just a suggestion.

Yeah...I'm kinda surprised that Pete hasn't blown a circuit yet (burned out)...MJC is an excellent choice too http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
In all the other places I see no less than 4-6 moderators...seems there is just too much to keep up with...

I have always thought that we needed additional moderators here.
I also know that ixl himself has admitted to not liking to give any further control of the site to other people (than he already has, like Pete)
Now then, my opinion is Pete does a fabulous job here, and I'm sure that he could use the help.
mjc seems to be a good choice as he is pretty even tempered, but to be honest that I think if it is to be only two people moderating here, one at least one of them should be on a broadband connection.. there is really allot of work to be done here.
just some thoughts.

Yeah i was thinking the other day that IXL didnt have another moderator because of security issues. Also if he wanted another moderator he would have already asked . I guess there is only two people thats it up to. Well i still think we need 2 and maybe more but ill just go with the flow. Hopefully IXL will respond and we will go from there. See ya

Soooooo many of you just blow me away with your knowledge, insight, humour and courtesy but ixl and Pete and mjc are very special. The ball's in their court but I have noted that the join-up rate now exceeds 1/hour (or approx 10,000/year) and seems to be geometric!

I just wanted everyone to know that I am working with Pete on this very subject. Due to how busy everyone is and a bit of miscommunication this hasn't happened yet but it will, probably in conjunction with the long-anticipated forum reorg. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

ixl: I just want to repeat what I have said before on how very grateful I am for this forum. Personally, I like it just fine..as it is.. even without "improvement." If you never have the time to work on the site, I will still be most obligated to you for providing it. So, please don't feel pushed in any way...we WANT you to succeed in your other endeavors and not to worry about site. (Well, unless it is "down," of course!...lol.)

just to say, that until the topic had come up, I hadn't given it much thought, which goes to say what an excellent job has been done so far, for which we (members) owe you our thanks,
But it has been noticable that the membership has increased (and continues to increase) since I joined the forum, which has obviously increased the workload of the moderators,
ixl made a wise choice when he 'appointed' pete, and now if ixl & pete feel that is what they want. I'll give mjc a http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/icons/icon14.gif too.
thanks too to duirnal for posting the topic.

I'm going to step in again and give my vote for MJC.
I do have one bit of constructive criticism though, MJC. Hope you don't take it the wrong way.
Ok, so here goes. I think a lot of times, MJC, you don't proofread your posts. I am certainly not claiming that I am perfect in this respect, but I have noticed that sometimes it appears as though your brain is busting with the answer and somehow it trips over your typing fingers and your post doesn't read right, in that, there are misspellings and grammar mistakes.
Most times, I know exactly what you're saying, but maybe someone who has posted here in frantic search of an answer will not.
See what I'm saying, MJC? You just need to slow down your brain or speed up your fingers. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
No offense intended. I for one always look forward to your answers whether it's for my own posts of others.
Cheers.

Potatoe or potato, to me spelling right doesnt matter, as long as the point is put across IMHO. Also as long as the moderator is there to delete posts, profanity, doubleposts, etc. I think if anything you work to hard MJC, and were all guilty of that. Im sure MJC will do a great job. Hi ixl/pete & all the gang here.
This one straight from the heart.
If this site sets the standards of you your country and the people there in. Then you've done a great job, don't change to much it work fine as it is. ixl concentrate on the little one before he grows up, it'll pass quicker than you expect. I'm proud to be a small part of this site, It's a shame I can't afford to visit in person. Still the internet is second best. We all love These Places (http://www.btinternet.com/~kfhickmott/pubdirectory/AHCs.htm).
All the best,

Please don't take offence with the following
I realise and accept the importance of spelling, but country differentials usually hide any small mistakes. As an example I point out the spelling of the word COLOUR (UK) COLOR (USA)there are many more examples of this. So long as the the post can be understood and the details are correct, in my opinion that is what matters.

Well, after following this one for a bit, I decided I better get my vote in before the polls are closed http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif
I most definitely vote for MJC http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/cool.gif
And as pointed out by Andy, there are few others here that deserve honorable mention. Some very talented folks here.
It has been one of my greatest learning experiences to serve along side these folks and watch this site grow.
We have seen people come here starting out with very basic questions and advancing to answering some very complicated problems. Even watching a few open their own shops with the knowledge and confidence they have gained from here. (Myself included)
That is a real testiment to what this site is and it's people like Pete and MJC that keep it that way (of course Charles too http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif )
Good luck MJC, it looks unanimous.

I'm sure most are familiar with sites such as eBay where they use a "Submission Preview." Where I mess up most often is with my UBB codes...forgetting a ], or hitting the shift key and getting a } instead.
I'll have to head back and edit, hopefully, before someone beats me by posting a subsequent response. I don't know the logistics involved but it would be nice to be able to check my links over for errors before final submission.
Also, could a spell check be added during a "submission preview?"

Just before this one is closed, I would agree that mjc is a natural choice for such a position. As others have mentioned, I also would not wish to detract from the great job that ixl and Pete have done and continue to do. I also agree with Andy that there are others here worthy of a mention not just for their knowledge but for the way they conduct themselves, GH for one. I think we can all rest assured that, whatever changes are made, will be for the good of the forum.

What, closing already with a mere 38 replies, when I am still scratching my head trying to figure out why we, the beneficiaries of but not the stakeholders in this great and unrivalled enterprise,
should have a say in who is to be Moderator? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/confused.gif
