Around a dozen "hs_err_pid1380" logs appeared on my desktop at work and now the same logs are appearing on my laptop.

When i open them i find the following result below. My main query is why are they appearing on my desktop. is it just a protocol of java. Never seen it before.

Any feedback much appreciated

Sounds like a virus using JAVA to propigate itself
But i am no expert on the subject

See http://www.java.com/en/download/help/5000041400.xml

You may just need to update or uninstall/reinstall Java.

i am just saying, if i was presented with that error that seemed to spread to other computers, i would think it was a new Virus,
but as i said, i am no expert on how a virus works
It could be a "bad" update file, or a corrupt program, but then why would it spread? (He said it started on his desktop, but then went to his laptop)
just my .02

but then why would it spreadJava and WinXP can both auto-update themselves. Both have produced buggy auto-updates in the past and it looks as if this is what happened with java on this occasion. Two internet-accessing computers could thus auto-update at the same time. Googling hs_err_pid didn't take long to get some good hits. Do some homework or simply ask if something is outside your experience rather than post alarming "advice".

FYI you might also note that Java based viruses are rare since Java tends to run in a sandbox - thus a Java based virus is not something that would normally leap to mind.

My bad, i was tired when i responded to his post and no thinking all that clearly. And if he got two computers that had this,"Auto-Update" problem, then he was just unlucky that day- two coincidences in a very short time frame, and the exact same problem?.... I do not (Generally) believe in coincidences

Also, JAVA based viruses are rare? That's news to me- learn something new everyday
