There are both time and subsequent post variables involved with your ability to edit your post.
After a predetermined amount of time your ability to edit expires...not sure, but I think about 1 hour.
In the event a subsequent post is submitted in a thread your ability to edit yours goes "poof!" http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Or, as we say..."Aced Out!" http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif
Oops, also...unless this is a Suggestion...best to place questions within another Forum Topic.

Yes, I see what you mean...
I suspect Pete or mjc will have to handle this one.
The Oops was my attempt to point out that the Suggestion Box Forum into which you posed your question is used for Suggestions on improving the forum...however, this might fall under the category definition cause it's pointing out situation that might need improvement! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif
It does say once you enter the IP logged that this function is only for the moderators above the boxes for User ID and Password. Why we are able to attempt only to be turned back...probably is just a non-hidden fuction that only their User ID and Password can open.

If you click on the IP: Logged link it should usually tell you that only forum administrators are allowed to access the logged IP address. If you got a message stating that it could not be edited it might have been because of new replies, I'm not sure.
I just checked the link for my IP addresds in a new post, I got the log in box for my username and password, same as usual.

Yes, I posted that. If I click the IP link I get the same login box everyone else does, and if I enter my username and password I can see the IP address. You cannot, only forum administrators can access the IP address. That is for your own safety.
Even if it is your own IP address, you cannot access it, but you have other ways of finding out your own IP address. I very rarely need to check an IP address, I think 3 times since I've been moderator I've had rason to use that option. The only one I'm usually concerned about is mine, and I can run winipcfg from the Run dialog box if I need to know my present IP.
If you were to put in your username and password you would get an error message, not being a forum administrator. (Myself and Ixl at present are the only two who can access IP addresses.) That is so nobody else can get your IP address and you won't have to worry so much about others using it for malicious purposes. Not from this site anyway...
If you try to view any IP address, even your own, and get an error message, it's working correctly. You're not supposed to be able to see them.

Original question:
if u click on the "IP:logged" link , and u r not the moderator , u get this message:-
Sorry, but you are not authorized to perform this function. Use your Back button.
ok,fine. but if u click on the same link of your own post, then instead of the above error, u get this:
This entire topic has seemed to be centered around attempting to view an IP address link all along. In the original question, "if u click on the same link of your own post" you made it seem to be connected to the IP: Logged link referred to earlier in the post. Then after Whyzman's reply, which basically answers the original question now that I know what it is, you specifically pointed out:
no no whyzman, u got it entirely wrong, wat i meant was if u r not the moderator and if u click on the "ip logged" link of your OWN POST then u get this err:
That seemed to confirm it. "If u click on the IP: Logged link..." again specifically refers to the IP: logged link, not an attempt at replying to a post.
Then after my first response:
coz this thing happens only when i click on the "IP:logged" link in the messages posted by me or replied by me.I added the bold text to point out the appropriate sections.
I'm sorry but I see two things here.
1. You have not made the question very clear, and have specifically made several comments indicating that it concerns attempts at viewing an IP address.
2. Whyzman correctly answered your question in his first response as well as correctly pointing out that it should have been posted somewhere other than Suggestion Box, since it is not a suggestion for improving the forums or handling questions.
Being from India I can understand that your knowledge of English might not be as good as ours, but this does not seem to be the problem, I see very little that indicates you may be having trouble with the language, your question simply was not made clear to begin with and was later made even more unclear by repeated references to clicking the IP: Logged link.
So...yes my answer had nothing to do with the question, but only because it had been repeatedly steered toward the IP issue.
If you try to edit your own post you have two conditions that may limit your ability to edit, as Whyzman already pointed out.
1. You have one hour after posting to edit.
2. If someone else posts a reply within that hour you can no longer edit a post. In other words after someone replies you cannot edit. If you try to edit a post and get the error message: Sorry, but this message has subsequent replies and may not be edited. Try posting a new reply to this topic. Please use your browser's back button. then you are getting the correct response, someone has already replied to the post and you can no longer edit it.
This should have been in How Do I or How Does This Work.

ok. henceforth, questions would go in the appropriate message board. i thought "how do i" & "how does this work" were meant only for problems regarding h/w and s/w applications. sorry for that, it wont happen again.
.... and as far as the framing of question goes, i think it was pretty straight-forward. all i said was i got the incorrect err mess. i dont wanna know my or anyone else's IP add. i just pointed out the error in the site which i have done with few other sites also. so kindly dont misunderstand me. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif
and hey, if there is a dead link or some kinda error in site, i can mail u directly, right ?
