Unfortunately, I am currently saddled with a 56K modem. At times forum pages take excruciatingly long to open, even when I use the Ad/Subtract program. It seems to me it's the giant sized photos and intrecate signatures used by many posters that slow down the process. Perhaps there might be some limits imposed.

With Dial up you may see a slow down when Photo’s or large images are included in a post.

However what your experiencing in more than likely caused by BOT.
Even with the notice on the Top every page

Some people still use them.
This even causes my cable connection to Slow the page loads to a crawl
Until a way to block all these bots is found we will all suffer from their effect

Some of us were discussing this last night in the chatroom, the last couple of days it seems that not just the pages with pics or many replies are slow loading but the short ones too...which is a sign of BOT activity.

A bot is robotic software...it will automatically download everything on a a website, usually used by spammers to gather email addresses or lazy people who don't want to actually do the work of finding stuff on their own.....they consume huge amounts of a servers resources by sending multipe request for every link on a page, some times the requests can add up to being the equivalent of a Denial of Service attack, especially if two are operating at the same time.

At least the ones we are talking about here...there are also good bots (Search companies like Google (http://www.google.com) use them to gather and cache pages and rank them, but they are well behaved and obey the rules...)

Nooyawkah,

Other than the robotic spammers mentioned, and thanks people on the explain, what I have done per I think it was Pete's suggestion as to more normal days is to disable animations in internet properties>advanced options. You could also disable the pictures but I found just stopping the animations was enough. Plus I am on 56K also. FWIW.

I'll add animations to my list, thanks fruss
