Currently use a pretty powerful laptop that is lasting me for what seems forever. I am currently interested in making a desktop.

And I kinda want to dip into Vista. Since I have a laptop and desktop with XP Pro (the desktop is just a storage slave).

I was wondering if its worth it to build one and put Vista on it.

Also going for a dual core processor, but Intel or AMD? (Not very picky)

I have enough experience picking the mobo and other stuff. 250g HD and 2GB+ memory, yatta yatta. But I am feeling like I am missing something.

And yes I am a n00b.

Do you play games? You will need a graphics card in that system (at least onboard) if you want to do anything with games. If you want Vista, especially Vista Ultimate, you will need a good graphics card. There is nothing wrong with Vista, so go ahead and pick it up with your new buy (it's future proof).

Go Intel with Core 2 Duo as your processor.
