I've received a few idiotic answers from Tech support in my time, and I thought it would be nice to see what others have-
Have you had anything so stupid it should be put in the dumb hall of fame?
Anything answer which just baffles the hell out of you?
Anything taking a step backwards in technology?

Here's a couple for starters:

I've been using NetObject Fusion (website design) for a few years, since version 7.
A couple of days ago I installed version 9, but it wouldn't run in a normal user account.
An Admin account was fine, but who wants that.

After emailing tech support, I eventually got the response "You need to be an Administrator to run this program".........not quite sure how many Admins see web site design as an Administrative task, but at least we know the app is secure from abuse:D

or how about:
A customer has a hardware problem with a cable modem - a loose connection on the RJ45 port means intermittent connection.

NTL (ISP) response......."We don't support Firefox"

Haha, those are pretty funny, but kinda scary too, considering they're supposed to be tech support.

I have had many nightmare experiences with tech support, but most are too long or simply not documented... One of the most common is that I call about a minor problem and they tell me to reformat the drive... I did that once years ago and now refuse... I have learned that it is generally not worthwhile to contact tech support, but I do keep trying anyway... I just contacted Comcast to set up my high speed cable, but ended up using asking here and then going to the Comcast forum to get a useful answer... Tech supports solution was to arrange to take off work so I could wait here for a tech who would charge me a minimum of $30 to tell me that my connection is fine... The solution I ended up with was to use a higher quality cable and that worked fine...

I can relate lots more stories, but have kept records of very few... I will say that one of the worst I ever encountered was ZoneAlarm after I bought the Pro version... Truly pathetic...

I had a Official DELL PC technician here to replace the motherboard a while back- the new motherboard they sent was bad

He spent 2 1/2 hours trying to convince them that the replacement part was bad

You think they would listen to their repair technicians- he said the mobo was bad in the first 5 min of talking to them
