I'm befuzzled about SCSI drives. In particular, 80-pin drives need to be installed onto a backplane that will connect to the SCSI controller via 68-pin cable. Does each hard drive count as a device and need a separate SCSI ID, or does the entire backplane count as one device so that all the drives connected to it share the SCSI ID of the backplane?

Terminators: If you are only using the external bus (port?), then does the internal bus need to be terminated or do some scsi controllers terminate the internal bus automatically?

SCSI controller cards need an ID, they are normally 7. Every hard drive will have an ID number. Terminators are used at the end of a cable. If you don't have a cable plugged in you shouldn't need a terminator.

Just a note in case you are using SAS.

SAS has no termination issues (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_Attached_SCSI) and does not require terminator packs like parallel SCSI
