hello,
I'm very relieved to find your site... I hope you can help.
The SD card drive stopped working on my laptop recently; today my printer indicated that its driver is gone but a diagnostic disk from the manufacturer (Canon) indicates the driver is still there.
I ran Avast and it showed the following file could not be scanned... and I tried to move it, and quarantine it; but Avast cant touch it:
c:\documentsandsettings\brian\content.IE5\4lg1un4l \laptops-types(2).htm\laptops-types(2)

Your log looks mostly okay, but there are a couple of files that are suspicious and I have found only minimal info on them:
C:\WINDOWS\spinsavc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\runprf32.exe
They seem to be both from the same program called System Surveillance Pro which appears to be a keylogger... If you did not install it, you may have a very serious problem and will need to change account numbers, passwords and so on... DO NOT use this computer for any activity that might provide that info to whoever is monitoring you until it is cleaned... If you did install it, it does not appear that you are infected... However, HJT is not reliable for catching all infections these days, so other scans are likely to be needed...

Yes, I installed the System Surveillance Pro to block objectionable sites for our young ones.
I will install AVG antivirus as a follow up to Avast. Thank you for your invaluable help, Budfred.

I am not sure what you mean by a "follow-up to Avast"... It is NOT a good idea to have 2 antivirus programs running at the same time... If you want to install it to do scans as needed, that is okay, but you can also do online scans as needed...

Budfred,
If I dont run the Avast and AVG at the same time:
1. Is it a problem to keep them both on my laptop? It has slowed my laptop a bit in processing since I loaded the AVG today but not as much as I anticipated so I'm Ok with keeping it aboard. As long as I'm ok with a bit slower processing speed AND I dont run both anti virus programs at the same time, its fine to keep them both on the laptop?
2. If it is a problem to keep them both on the laptop, would you tell me where to go for the online scanning? I've never heard of online scans except the promotional kind.
Thanks again, :)
Brian

If your processor speed has slowed, it means you are running it in resident mode and the possibility of all sorts of weird glitches begins... They are both trying to do the same thing at the same time and it is like two people trying to go through the same door at the same time... Some times it works and no one gets hurt, but sometimes they both end up on their butts and whatever they might have been doing gets thrown all over... Turn the resident function of one of them off...
Almost every company that makes an antivirus has an online scanning option... Some of the better ones are F-Secure, Kapersky, Panda, TrendMicro and even specific scans from McAfee and Norton...

Did you also notice the sticky topics at the top of the forums?? If you look in Applications and Security, you will find topics that will answer your question...
And for future reference, we really don't like people to post their questions in other people's threads... This one is not active, but it is considered rude to hijack someone else's thread...
